JosephThomas
Did they decide it was a manufacturing defect? Or was the motor overloaded at some point? Wondering if there's anything to learn so I can avoid this myself (even though I have the other model).
bleedinblue
Honestly communication was so short we didn't get into it. Next week I'll follow up with them after the new motor is installed and I'll try to figure out why it happened. One thing that sticks out is a line in the manual. Under the trouble shooting there is a section for something like "conveyor motor oscillates." My motor always rotated a bit when running, and the motion could have been described as oscillating. I thought it was normal since the belt ran smoothly and didn't seem to bind. Does the motors on your guys' sanders move when running? Truth be told after I took the motor off and I thought about it, I don't know HOW it moved since the bracket is solid, but I know the whole motor moved. Coop
Glad you got a satisfactory resolve blue. Like most tools, you never know how much you miss it until you don’t have it, after you got it. Good luck with the replacement bud.

I've been meaning to look at it as I'm concerned about this as well. I have been nervous watching that motor move.
Chestnut
I'll have to look at mine
bleedinblue
The main tech guy Laguna said he didn't know why it broke, said that's not common. He said his first guess would be a bad batch of metal. Not sure if it matters or not, but I pre-ordered my sander almost immediately after it was announced. I should have one of the first runs. ZombieMonkey
Lovely, yours was probably in the same batch as mine as I had it preordered too. I'll be curious if your new one does it too
JosephThomas
@bleedinblue Mine oscillates significantly. It's an older 19-38 model, and I think I bent the conveyor shaft when I moved it onto a new base. It still runs, although the conveyor's motor struggles more at times. I've been meaning to replace it, but when I contacted Supermax about a replacement part, the customer service guy never got back to me and I just kept using it as is. (It's years out of warranty, so I'm not mad, but I expected they'd want my business for buying replacement parts).
Tom King
Looks like there is a new category for metal. We have always heard about "cold rolled", and "pot metal". I've seen the scrap that gets loaded into containers headed for China. I think there is a new category that could honestly be called "pot luck metal". 1
bleedinblue
Hopefully it's not a problem moving forward and these things don't break every six months. If it does, my brother in law has free reign of a machine shop, he may be able to make me a replacement from something tougher.
bleedinblue
In case anyone is keeping score, I spoke with SM yesterday and found out the motor hadn't even shipped yet. It was set to go out yesterday afternoon. Points lost.
Chet
That is frustrating when you are waiting for something and you find out it isn't even in he pipeline yet.
bleedinblue
Still nothing. I'm feeling pretty reaffirmed in my decision to buy a Rikon bandsaw instead of a Laguna...a decision I made mostly because of Laguna's customer service. bleedinblue
It's a good thing I don't do this for money. I'll get ahold of them again tomorrow if the motor isn't delivered.
Chestnut
Holy the one time i had a complaint i had a tracking number before the phone call was over. Also i did notice that my conveyor motor moves while it's on. It's slight but it's there.
bleedinblue
It's interesting that you say your movement is slight. Mine was quite pronounced. When I get the new motor mounted I'll video it if it does the same, then try to adjust it out if possible.
Coop
That sucks! Don’t they realize that stuff like this gets out and hurts their business.

bleedinblue
So this isn't one of my over reactions to so-so customer service? That actually makes me feel better, lol. I'm frustrated, and will never recommend one of their machines to anyone again, but there's not a dang thing I can do about it. I'm gonna shoot an email to them soon, but I know it's not going to benefit me in the least.

You would think that companies would care more in this day and age, but they kinda have a monopoly in this class of tool, so I guess they don't. Maybe they could give you some extra paper or something.

ZombieMonkey
I cannot believe this still has not been resolved. I really hope that they get this taken care of soon. Makes me really hope I don't have any issues with mine or my Laguna bandsaw. Damn that sucks.
