pkinneb
Hey all I want to add some leather to my Pattern Makers Vice jaws how would you do it? (Leather attached to metal vice jaws) Will contact cement work? Spray adhesive? Other thoughts on what would be best?
Chet
I don't know if you have a shoe repair shop around but years ago I backed a electric pallet jack over my foot and it tore up the leather on the toe of my steel toe shoes and took it to my shoe repair to have it fixed and he used something to bond the patch to the steel. And yes, I was extremely happy to be wearing heavy steel toed shoes that day.
Coop
I bet a hot glue gun would work. I obviously have been spending too much time in my wife’s craft building.
JohnG
Contact cement/ rubber cement should work fine.
BonPacific
I've used super 77 for binding leather to metal. It's basically spray contact cement.
wtnhighlander
Contact cement is a good choice.
Mark J
I would think the leather needs to be replaceable. I'd bond it to some thin ply, then screw that to the vise jaws.

wtnhighlander
For those who use genuine leather on jaw vises, is any maintenance required? In my experience, un-oiled leather tends to get dry and brittle after a while.
Chestnut
So when are you going to make me a custom bocote gun stock? Awe man i said that as a joke now i REALLY want that to be a reality. Well maybe not that'd make my gun awfully heavy.

I used much thinner leather n my Roubo vise no issues but nothing this thick before in fact I was a bit surprised when it came how thick it was. we shall see how it holds up.
RichardA
I've used that thick leather on my vises for 5 or 6 years now. it's worked well, but it's time to replace it, and I've just been to damn lazy.
