Popular Post wnaziri
I had been looking for a step stool design for our kitchen for a while. My wife had asked for this a while back and I did not know of a design that I liked. I finally found one that I thought was well designed piece and it would make for a good project where I could use some hand skills with planing, dovetails, etc. It is by Tommy Mac from Jan/Feb 2009 FWW, I used figured cherry for this project. I did hand cut dovetails. I exercised my new Lie Nielsen #4 smoother. The finish is Arm-R-Seal.

RichardA
I like it, it's a good shaker design! Ya done good!
wtnhighlander
That is one nice looking set of steps! Is it very heavy to move around? I have considered making one with the shaker-style 'handle' extending up, and using pine. to keep the weight down. But I kinda hate pine now... wnaziri
Thanks everyone for the kind words. @wtnhighlander The stool is actually not heavy at all. My wife seems to be moving it with ease. She loves it. I should mention that I based it on the T Mac design but I did alter it somewhat. I first did the step with the height specified in the article but when I stepped on it, I thought it was too tall and I worried about stability. So, I altered the dimensions and it actually made a difference. I like the current height much better.

wdwerker
I built a 3 step one with a tall handle on one corner and it gets used all over the shop. I intend to build a nicer , lighter, stiffer, stronger one to replace it. I'm thinking figured maple & a bit thinner for weight considerations Thanks for some inspiration ! Beautiful and functional ! Sign it and date it !
