Popular Post Cliff
(Now in the right topic, accidentally created in reviews at first!) Just some boxes 2.5 years in the making. As in, I screwed them up pretty good and restarted twice. They are to hold sweaters under the bed for my mother in law. Made 3. One still in finishing. I really dislike working cedar. Looking at it hard dents it. And planing a panel down to 1/4" was miserable as the knots exploded on me. Also the box joints (using ibox for the first time) were very fragile and wanted to break or get silly. Also a learned some valuable lessons about clamping box joints, they all came out square but where I did not have clamping pressure they did not fully seat. So I had to fill those gaps in with epoxy mixed with sawdust. Pretty noticeable if you know what you are looking for but to a non-woodworker, it probably is not. Sanded to 220, 4 coats of ARS. Unfinished on the inside, sanded to 320. Corner casters that may have cost more than the wood.
Chestnut
I agree on aromatic cedar sucking to work with. Looks like they turned out pretty good though.
Mark J
Very nice. Your Mom in law is going to like them.
wdwerker
Looks nice ! I always use my drum sander on knotty wood but pine and cedar are bad about loading up the abrasive with resin. Finger joints are fussy but behave better when the fit isn't super tight. Specialized casters can get pricey real quick. I found a wholesale supplier many years ago who stocks the frames and wheels separately. They assemble your choice of features to keep from stocking so many versions. Light duty wheels don't need bearings so I can pick a cheaper wheel. Luckily they are local as freight would tag on even more $. I've found some wholesale suppliers will sell to the public if you are polite & patient so it's worth looking into.
Chet
They do look nice Cliff. It is a shame that cedar is a fussy wood to work with because it sure can be pretty.
chashint
Projects that get used are the best ones and these will be great storage boxes for years upon years. There may be elements about them that don't meet your standards, but they really do look great. Accept any thanks and compliments without apologies, they are given with love.

Spanky
Cliff, your boxe’s look good. Cedar cuts good on a mill, but hard to work with.
drzaius
Nice job on those Cliff. I built a chest out of that stuff for my wife (then GF) more years ago than I like to admit, but it's well over 40 years. Even now, when it is opened up the room fills with the most wonderful aroma. I don't remember how hard it was to work because then I was more concerned with other things

JohnG
They look great! It’s a shame it was such a frustrating build.

The 2nd version I tried were my first ever dovetails. Holy crap it was awful. That was my own mistake. Definitely frustrating but it will be awesome to see her face light up.
