Weighed a ton. The funeral staff put me at the back end. The haul was uphill and all the weight shifted to us on the end. My customer is my age [76] and he stopped by this evening to pay me and pick up one of the two. He weighs around 160#, he picked up one end and turned to me and said, he'll be by this weekend with some help. Even Cedar gets heavy.
wtnhighlander
Rick, do the cedar hand rails require any reinforcement? That stuff is sort of brittle, but all I've ever worked with has been planed to 5/8" or less.

Then they run the length of the casket with 4 supports at 17" apart. Brittle yes, but at 17", quite solid. My biggest problem with Cedar is the dust is finer than talcum powder. My nose has a new ridge from hospital masks.
Tom King
I was a pallbearer for an Aunt who never had any children. The pallbearers were all Nephews. I was on the side with a businessman, and a preacher-both way overweight, and probably never an hour of exercise their whole life. I ended up carrying all the weight on that side. The businessman, I thought was going to pass out, or have a heart attack. I told him to lighten up, that I had it. The preacher was having trouble too, and lightened up about the same time. After our job was over, the businessman thanked me profusely. The preacher never said anything.
Popular Post RichardA
My customer didn't want to wait for the weekend, He has a few friends that want to see what kind of work I did with a "pine" box made from Cedar. Monday he's taking them to a friend of his in the cardboard business and getting them double wrapped and sealed so he can store them for future use. They left my shop at 11:30 AM. And oddly, I now have a shop not a crowded closet. Yee haw..

However boxes can be used as well. This guy (Mark Katrinak) is a friend and student at school. I've been trying to convince him to look into pet urns also. Bankstick
Inquired about urns for people. The reply was one cubic inch of body weight. Hope this helps some of the members.

Coop
So 180 cu in for a 180 lb. person? I need to loose some weight as I don’t have that much SYP.
Bankstick
Keep in mind that the ashes are actually bone powder. Organic body parts are vaporized by the extremely high temperatures. A funeral home would have the sizes. From what I have seen, funeral urns are all basically the same size. Or a search should help. Coop, 6x6x6 equals 216. Have a pizza and an ice cream sundae!
Mark J
Wait, pizza + ice cream = ice cream pizza! Sugar cone or grahm cracker crust; layer of ice cream (dark cherry or ruby chocolate); shredded coconut; and dollops of fudge topping or chocolate pieces. Sorry. That had absolutely nothing to do with anything.
Bankstick
When both of my parents passed, they were transported in the standard body bag. I was offered to put my mother's remains in a wooden casket for $XXX or on a slab of cardboard for $XXX. Passed on that as unnecessary. Coop would have more room to grow, that's all.
