Popular Post treeslayer
this is a side table for the wife, walnut with cherry drawers and accents, 3 coats of ars satin, all M&T, pegged with cherry and walnut, 40 wide 15 deep and 32 tall, just wood slides on the drawers, they were so small i didn't want to lose the room for mechanical slides, she loves it and you know what that means (i can start making something else for her) thanks for looking

Coop
Dave, Great looking job! Are the dark strips on the shelves walnut as well?
Chet
That looks great Dave. I was wondering about the shelves as well. I could decide if it was a different color in the wood or actual gaps between the slats.
treeslayer
thanks for the great comments fellow woodworkers, the dark stripes are actually gaps between the boards, the rails if you will are dadoed into the legs, then stub tenon and mortice on the boards for the shelves. wtnhighlander
Great-looking piece, Dave. I love the contrasting pegs, and the bookmatched legs with sapwood exposed are a touch of genious!

treeslayer
thanks guys, the cherry top has a couple of book matched pieces on it as well but you can't see them, the wife put stuff on it before i could take the picture, shaneymack, it will have handles, i wanted wood but lost out to the wife and it will have black iron similar to stickily as soon as she finds some she likes

chrisphr
Looks great! Curious on what you did to account for wood movement in the top. You mentioned the cherry is book matched, is the top a veneer on ply?
treeslayer
hey chris, there are maple supports under the top and its screwed on from the bottom, oversized holes to account for movement, for the walnut around the top the cherry plugs are just for show, they are screwed on ala William Ng, very little glue and oversized holes to let it move

treeslayer
sorry chris forgot to mention the top, i had a thick narrow 4" board of cherry that i resawed for the middle of the table top, the top is 1" thick

prov163
Beautiful. Those beefy legs look great in a kitchen. Like that you used slats on the shelves rather than a solid panel.
Eric.
Well done Dave. I like how the front legs with the little strips of sapwood are mirror images of each other. That's attention to detail and I for one appreciate it! Also, walnut and cherry make mighty good neighbors. I've always thought that.
