wdwerker
My finish supplier custom mixed the stain to match a roll top desk the client wanted to use as his bar back . We did that project last year.Since this curio cabinet is right outside the doorway to the bar we are using the rest of the stain. Just made it too, only a few ounces left of the gallon. The charge to custom mix is around $75 for stains. We spray the stain then wipe it back. I use a old HVLP gun with a narrow fan and small fluid flow to keep overspray down.

wtnhighlander
Nice work, Steve! That looks like a super tight fit. Did you add the top after the base was in place? I can't see the assembled unit going in past the stairway trim.
wdwerker
I made a template ! Top fit like a glove, put the stair side down first and layed it down . Didn't even scrape the wall !

wdwerker
So we finished the big case pieces seperately to make the interior finish as good as the exterior . Used green (Frog ) tape to cover the glue joint surfaces & domino mortices. Peeled the tape to expose the glue surfaces and Domino mortices to add the face frame. One layer at a time then clamp for 30 minutes or so. Use almost every short clamp in the shop to ensure all the gaps are closed. I let this stage dry for an hour or so. Popular Post wdwerker
Ok, revision the above pic was after gluing on the side panels with the glass already installed. I let that stage dry overnight. After Measuring I realized it wouldn't fit in the van or be safe in the pickup truck. Had to rent a UHaul truck to deliver it. Was sweating making the delivery . Client and his son helped us carry this 73" X 67" X 12 1/2" case around the house, up the back stairs and into the stairway landing area. Next time I will assemble a case this size on site ! The crown and Celtic molding band was made as a separate piece. Because it was visible from the stairs it got a finished top where a Celtic harp will be displayed.
