bradpotts
I just posted my last finished project and Cooper said he wished it was a journal. So this one is for you coop! I took the idea of this table from the cutting boards that have the waves in it. Here are the designs that I made in sketch up. Not that good at sketch up but it will do. I put a twist in the legs to give it some character. I also ran a string I lay down the side to draw some attention to the twist. I am going to contrast the very bottom with the same wood I am using for the drawer. Tomorrow I will hopefully get the bottoms cut, routed and glued in. One more picture.

Popular Post bradpotts
Here is how you put a twist in the board. First you have to decide how much of a twist you want. If you want a half twist then lay out your board like this. if you want a full twist then go to the other side. I made this little jig to help with some of the waste. Once you have as much of the waste gone as possible, then it is time for some hand tools. Take your spoke shave and plain down to the line. Then you have the twist you wanted! Today's progress. Finished two legs. My original plan was to route out the pattern but because of the twist I couldn't keep the router level enough. So... Grab the hand tools it's time to go old school. Cut out the tenon then chisel away all the waste. Once I was done I glued the bottoms on. They are mitered.
Chestnut
That leg twist is really cool. Excited to see this one get completed.
Brendon_t
Pretty cool brad. Is the very top a floating top? It looks raised in the drawing.
Immortan D
I haven't seen something like that before. Those twisted legs! Great design and flawless execution, Brad!
Ray
Those legs look awesome. Definitely looking forward to watching it take shape. As a relatively new woodworker, seeing projects like this (and others in this forum) serves as great motivation to continue to refine my skill.
bradpotts
Pretty cool brad. Is the very top a floating top? It looks raised in the drawing. Yeah it is going to be floating. I didn't even try to make the sketchup look like it should. Today's progress was a little slow for two reasons:one good and one bad. First with the bad. I mitered the leg bottom before scribing it in the leg. This caused me about two hours of extra work to make it close enough to glue it. The GOOD I finally got a drum sander. I spent a little time putting it together and moving it. It was one of the easiest tools that I have ever assembled. I did get all the legs done. don't see a ton of progress tomorrow because I am delivering the Northwester Mutual table tomorrow. Forgot to thank Marc for comparing the supermax and powermatic and the mini review.
Coop
Brad, that's about as cool as it gets! There's going to be a whole lots of folks watching this one go together, myself included.
shaneymack
Wow that drum sander is sick! Let us know what you think of it after giving it a good test drive. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

Brendon_t
Man that sander is a beast. Any chance the cabinet has storage available? Seems like a lot of wasted space. straight up brad, I'm pretty stoked to watch this one come together. Just the legs have massive sex appeal busting out of the 90* world. Marcel.F
I'm still trying to wrap my head around those legs. But it seems they're wrapping around just fine enough on they're own. Best of luck and thanks for letting us tag along while you build it. Marcel--- Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Also, since I can't seem to understand these legs. Would it have been easier to mortise the top portion for the aprons before removing the twist stock? Or do you still have that flat 90* reference up top? Marcel--- Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The top is still 90. The twist starts about 6-1/2" down. Not a lot done today. Did build a sled though.
Chestnut
Nice sander. That storage underneath would be really handy. I like your sled but it seems awe fully narrow to me. Though i like my unweildly 35" x 30" sled that i can use to square cabinet doors.
Popular Post bradpotts
Some progress today. Spent the morning building a jig to cut the mortises. If you are ever worried about messing something up, make a jig so you can't mess it up. I would have been so mad if I had to make another leg. Got all the tenons cut. That is one big domino! All in all pretty good!

Chet
Those legs are cool. I went through to quickly the first time and thought the bottoms were some kind of inlay, then upon further review I see that you actually mortised and tenoned the piece on. Nice work Brad
