Mark J
No blade guard or dust collection, so I'm guessing flesh sensing technology was a no go, too.
mat60
Well at least they are using a spliter. Cool video and looks like hard work moving the logs.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
I saw this sawmill yesterday. Water-powered, and obviously pre-OSHA. That rod sticking out from the base, and within about 4" of the blade, is the gearbox engagement lever. I'm sure it was last operated by some dude called 'Lefty'.
wdwerker
That was almost painful to watch. So dam dangerous and the cuts seemed random. Not the nicest looking wood either. Anyone have a guess what kind of wood that might be ?

TerryMcK
dangerous. Too easy to fall into that blade especially as some of them had difficulty standing up at the start of the clip. The blade was powered all the time they were manoeuvring the log into place. When that guy climbed on top I thought there was going to be blood. Popular Post wdwerker
Snidely Whiplash and the girl tied to the log came to my mind. Too much Saturday morning cartoons ?
Tom King
Looked like Poplar to me, but the heart was pretty small, so I'm not 100% sure-maybe Silver Maple (soft maple).
CandorLush
the screen cap on the video says "Monster Maple" so I am guessing Tom is right about the Silver maple

freedhardwoods
That may be interesting to watch, but sawing a log on an extremely undersized saw wastes a lot of time and lumber, especially doing everything by hand like they were. When I worked at a sawmill, we sawed a 66" diameter (at the small end) log on a fully mechanized saw with a 54" main blade and 32" top blade. It took so long that the mill owner said he would have been money ahead to just burn it instead of sawing it.
