Tom King
Talking about kids books, we homeschooled both of our children until they were 14 and 15. Our county school system was ranked as 176th out of 177 school systems in the state, so the choices were not good. We converted one of the original bedrooms in the oldest part of the house into a library. It's just a 10x10 room and doesn't have any room left for my books in the tall barrister bookcase.

I have ebonized several pieces in the past.

BillyJack
It’s rained so much in KC I’m hoping for a few hours sunshine. We have a small fair here in Odessa, that comes once a year and hoping the grand daughter will be able to go.So I’ll skip the shop today.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
Finally cobbled together some steps from the side of the 'shop' porch. Been a while since I cut stair stringers. Between the stringers, and searching for tools I hadn't used in a while, this took 3 times longer than it should have. Not good in 100+ weather. Maybe next weekend I can get the painting done. Maybe some day I'll make back into the shop!
Popular Post pkinneb
Got the second coat of black on yesterday Then today after cleaning that up with a Trizact pad and burnishing with burlap I put the first, of three, coats of oil mix on...I call this the payoff of all the hard work. Really happy with how is coming out. For those wondering this deep rubyish color is what I am going for
JohnG
Looks great! Seems like the time and effort for that finish will be well worth it.
Popular Post pkinneb
As the Windsor rocker, shavehorse, and cribbage board projects come to an end time to start thinking about the next ones so today I started roughing out some lumber. I need to knock out some urn boxes like I have done previously and also going to make a couple of spectator chairs for the game room. No real plan here just a pic and some measurements to go with but fairly straight forward so shouldn't be to bad.
Popular Post legenddc
Yesterday I made a tray to fit a Lego baseplate in. I somehow managed to make it a smidge too small so I'll have to redo it this week. Didn't take long and felt good to be making sawdust again. Also went out to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday that's coming up. We went back to my parent's house where I was reminded I have a decent bit of white oak in their basement that I need to come up with a plan for. I thought my dad had used more of it up but there's still a lot left.

legenddc
My wife got a text on Friday morning from our neighbors asking if we could go look at their house since their au pair said something was leaking and they're visiting family in California. Turned the water off to the house because I could hear water spraying inside the walls. Haven't seen the final damage but the plumber had to make at least two holes in the basement ceiling. LOADS of water came out, confirming my decision to not start poking holes in someone else's house while they're 3,000 miles away.
Popular Post pkinneb
Knocked out a couple quick things I've been meaning to get to. First a little holder on the back of my sharpening station for the scraper sharpening tools. Then cut some mirror down and made holders for these. They are for drilling some of the holes for Windsor chairs.

Popular Post pkinneb
Turned 18 of the 27 pins for the cribbage boards only took 50 tries LOL...not as easy as it should be. I actually ended up using my Easy Wood turning tools which I never use becuase I prefer traditional tools but they worked out well here. I'll try and knock out the last nine tomorrow before I forget the muscle memory

The pins were hard maple, purpleheart and gaboon ebony. The ebony were by far the easiest to turn the maple not terrible and the purpleheart kind of a PITA. The purple would tear out really easily making it tough to work.
Popular Post Von
Got the edging and the drawer fronts installed. It's got the required handful of "close enough" flaws to prove its shop furniture. Need a trip to the hardware store to get bolts long enough to install the handles. Started working on finishing up the top by doubling up some plywood.
