Wine wall built ins

Thanks guys, yes this was a commissioned piece. In that area was a days old hutch he wanted removed.  Asked if I had any interest in building a wine unit and so it started.

The top left holder does get a lot of love.  Essentially, I cut the coves on the table saw, made a sanding form from mdf. Put a 5/8 round-over on the bottom and 1/8" on top to give it more of the sweep.

I cut a 3° up and 8° off 90 to the right.  I used those same degrees to make a drilling jig spaces for the sides where there is an inch of thickness.  4" spax screws from the back, also counter sunk at an angle allowed a great tight fit. I tested with two 8lb weights at the end and have about no deflection.

really like the figure on the door frames Brendon, beautiful work all around.

Thanks.  That piece of walnut came out of my personal stash because I thought the doors needed a little something extra.

He just sent me one more.  I still love it without the natural sunlight

Did you trim out the top on the job as well.

Not on site. When I went to measure, I brought a long piece of hardboard that I scribed from the wall onto.  Shaped the hardboard to the .05mm pencil line and transferred that to the actual top glue up.

It actually layed in with a little pressure on the blue tape protecting the wall then just sunk in about perfectly.  I was very pleased to say the least.

Thanks Ken.  The benefactor  is a director for my firm and apparently is showing it off to everyone that he can.  I had some random people stop by my office that I don't even know to ask about it and want to see more pictures.

The top left piece is the clear crowd favorite.

Awesome exposure! One question from a non-wine guy, though ... I thought the bottles were supposed to be stored neck down so the cork doesn't dry out. Am I not seei g something in the pic, or is this just meant for short-term storage?

Or (most likely) do I just not have a clue about this?

There's wine at the cork, Ross, if not, the bottles are less than half full.

Yes sir.  Here is the video and jig I followed.  The process was very easy.  Cleaning up after is the hardest part but the rigid sanding block I made made quick work of those as well.

To be totally honest,  I'm not a wine guy either.  This couple drinks a lot of wine and buys by the case. I doubt anything will be sitting there too long to spoil or rot a cork.  Especially since he moves about every 3 years it seems.

I kept it dark in the drawers and routed the fan from the cooler which is insulated down to under the legs of the unit.

If there are big parts I did wrong, please feel free to let me know.  I'm never too proud to learn.

You're kidding right?  Amazing work!  How are the drawers constructed?  Got a picture?

No,  I'm sure there are nuances I missed but have been looking at each piece so long that i won't see it.

Here are some pics of drawer construction.  I'll say the domino got a workout on this build.

Lots and lots of parts..

As you see, I cut reliefs in the center do that the bottles will nest properly without touching.

Cut and pattern routed the faces. Then just hinge hanging and assembly. 22df0e84c62eff58c52df93d3dca715d.jpg

This picture was before final drawer face  trimming. I used a 1/8 shim on both right and left as inset.

I supplied a few tubs of quake hold putty. I told him to use it I'll pretty much guarantee he won't but I did my due diligence on it

OMG, I thought you were kidding.............................until I googled it.

I could have used that stuff for my avatar pic.  It would have taken only one hot dog.

Haha nope. It's a real thing and very useful. I use it on breakable things on shelves.
