Chet
I would like to think that painting it will be successful. If it didn't paint well it would become a pretty useless product unless you like beige. Did you give any thought to painting it before fastening it to the wall? Probably to floppy to do that properly.

We'll know soon enough
Popular Post pkinneb
So this weekend was all about painting trim in preparation for the carpet...First up I had to install the trim that met the bendable trim. Then it was time to commence tapping, and taping and more dang taping!! and finally 7 flippin hours later I got the sprayer fired up The bendable did take the paint but it took about 6 vs 3 coats to cover. Patch turned out pretty good and that's a wrap Tomorrow they come to take apart the pool table in preparation for carpet on the 27th. I will start working on the laminate flooring in the bath, in front of the sliding door, and in front of the bar. With that in I will be ready for carpet and not any too soon we leave Friday morning for our daughters graduation returning on the 26th.

Tom King
Looks fantastic! I'm curious about your choice of laminate for the bath. We're fixing up an older house to rent on the lake, and we've chosen to replace all the carpet with Luxury Vinyl Plank. I'm just wondering why you chose laminate, instead of LV tile, or plank.

I'm also curious. I was under the impression that laminate is wood fiber product and can swell and distort with moisture. The LV plank is a good product for a lake place durable and inexpensive.

Tom two reasons WAF and ease of installation. We went with Pergo Outlast which carries a limited lifetime residential warranty if installed correctly. The claim is its water proof we shall see.

We put LV tile into our office... it's nice stuff. We used a Coretec Plus product which seems a bit better than what they sell at the box stores. It clicked together just like a laminate, but the whole underside is plastic. I had Pergo laminate in a townhouse years back, and it was fairly durable. They must have changed the way the seams work to declare it waterproof.
Tom King
We're using the Coretec Plus in that lake house. Pergo just came out with LVP (different than their laminate), that is even better quality than the Coretec, but after getting $45 worth of samples delivered, which didn't come real close to the pictures on the internet page, we passed on it, since it didn't look like they had a light, warm color without knots, or rustic looking. Everything seems to favor grays now, and I don't like patterns, such as knots, and streaks, that repeat. The Pergo was more expensive, but we would have sprung for the cost, if they'd had one that we liked good enough to go with all the old wood in that house. Normal price is about 4.60, to 4.75 for the Coretec Plus, but I bought 63 boxes for $4.20. We have two banks in town that use it, and I've been more than impressed with how well it's held up with all that foot traffic. It's been down for about a year, and still looks new. I don't remember what the Pergo was, but it was over 5 bucks-may have been more. The Coretec Plus has a cork back, but they do claim that it's waterproof. My test showed that standing water didn't penetrate the seams. The Pergo LV is solid composite. I have a shear cutter coming for the Coretec. I think the Pergo would have to be cut with a saw. Both snap together just like laminate does.
pkinneb
With the pool table out of the way it was time to spray some interior doors One done and hung back up, another being sprayed OK I have to admit there was something satisfying about this but what a mess LOL With the doors done I sprayed the remaining trim...at least I hope that's all I need. This trim is for over the laminate floor in the rest room, around the bar, as well as above the rubber floor in the exercise room (glass doors) Next up laminate floor hopefully I can knock that out Thursday evening before we leave Friday.
Popular Post pkinneb
Big day today carpet went down in the main family room My crappy pics make it look tan in some of the photo's but its a grayish color. The stair is more representative of what it really looks like Next up pool table set up Monday carpet in the theater Thursday...I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still plenty to do but it is coming together and as i told my wife, honey the stairwell is 100% complete lol 5

Popular Post pkinneb
More progress Pool table is in and cloth has been replaced, foosball table is in, Ms Pacman video game is in. I bought the Ms Pacman for my wife last Christmas its been sitting in our living room since I also finished the black light in the stage. This will charge the center of the star ceiling and is connected through the insteon system so I can hit a button on my phone and the soffit black lights will go on, the stage black light will go on and rise up, charge the ceiling for 10 minutes then retract and everything shuts down so when my lazy butt gets in my seat its already to go The next day the carpet went in. I also finished the threshold Then it was time to knock out some trim. The walls will be covered with cloth panels that cover up 2" acoustic panels so the trim needs to sit out 2 1/8" so I used 2x material for a backer taken down to 1 3/8" and 3/4" poplar for the fascia. The 1/2" is for the equipment alcove. The trim will be painted black. Next I installed the step lights. One tip I learned from my brother when screwing in painted screws use a thin piece of plastic between the screwdriver and the screw and you won't muck up the paint. Finally I moved the equipment rack in and brought in the equipment and speakers I will work on installing speakers and equipment while I wait for the fabric to arrive. The two HSU 15" ported subs are still in storage I will move them in after the wall panels are complete Next up install speakers, equipment and then dial in screen size so I can start the screen and the wall panels.

Chestnut
I think I'd much rather pay $10 admission to watch movies at your place than a movie theater. I'd even buy overpriced refreshments . This is awesome!

I will stretch a layer of white over a layer of black on a 5/4 x 3" poplar frame. I need to get the projector up and running so I can dial in the final screen size and aspect ratio. Most likely it will be 125" - 135" diagonal but need to decide on 16:9 or 2:35:1 aspect ratio. the front row chairs should arrive this week so testing will begin in the next couple of weeks

Well upon further review I may go with a Seymour DIY product called XD it has a higher gain which will provide a brighter image, ordered and receive some samples now I need to run some tests. In the mean time I started installing speakers ATMOS in the ceiling as well as the surrounds. Also received the front row seats Painted and installed the black base trim Then started working on the fabric frames for the walls. First up cutting 5/4 poplar strips, strips, and more strips Then I got out a tool I don't use very often the Kreg jig, since I may have to make slight adjustments I didn't want to glue these The frames start going in. Eventually they will be wrapped in grey fabric and there will be absorption material behind many of them More frames to go...
Mark J
Every time I think you're almost done you come up with a lot more work to do. But it looks like you will be done in time to watch all 9 Star Wars episodes in succession. Question is whether to go in story order or release date order?
Popular Post pkinneb
Today my wife and I spent a couple hours in the theater deciding on screen size and material so that I can order the screen material and finish the room. We are going with a Constant Image Width screen, that will make the 16:9 (first pic) about 130" diagonal and the 2:35:1 about 126" I am looking forward to watching the this years Superbowl on the big screen
