legenddc
Why would an outlet 6' off the ground need a GFCI? Basement is coming along nicely.
Gary Beasley
Because the thing you plug into it may not be six feet off the ground.

I have been scratching my head over that for days. We are using them for Neon signs so it never crossed my mind that you could plug something in and set it by the sink "facepalm"
Chet
In the county I live in, since around 1992, any new or remodel construction requires any circuit in room that has water has to have GFCI.
Tpt life
I think here it’s “GFCI protected.” That means daisy chained through a GFCI outlet.

Where I am, the breakers need to be GFI in all "livable" areas. Basically, where people will be living which is to say it's vague. And all outlets where kids might be need to be tamper resistant. Also vague. So that tripled the price of components for our basement we just finished. yay codes.
Popular Post pkinneb
Busy week on the basement First up I painted, reassembled, and installed the smoke alarm Then I knocked out the stair railing, they are ready for finish Painted the can light trim rings Then I spent three glorious days in the shop working on the columns for the theater Batching out the materials Then using a test piece I dialed in the dado and the round over, I reduced the overhang on the round over by a 1/4" on the final design Then more batching out Then I started working on the front design I used this one as a template for the rest I used my pin nailer for the first one and then cut the pins to about an 1/8 in and was a able to reuse it for the rest, just push it in and away you go.Then use a putty knife to remove. Columns all batched out Then I worked on the speaker enclosures, first up a quick template Then batched out the parts set up the rabbit bit to provide the desired offset Quick test fit...that'll do Then I carried them into the theater to determine placement and mounting points Then back to the shop for glue up Also had to fix the crack on one of them with some CA glue While they were drying I sanded the round overs with this thing. I had picked up a a set of these a while back but never used them, they work great! These two are complete other than mounting the speaker enclosures and finish Four more to go
Chet
I beat it felt good to spend some time in the shop, even if it was particle board.

It was awesome! Football season and the wood shop, doesn't get any better than that! Yeah paining these so went with MDF really wishing I had the 1010 Festool router. I love my little Dewalt but the dust collection stinks on it especially compared to my OF1400 & OF2200. While I still think the Festool routers are way overpriced they are incredible tools. So the next time I see a 1010 on the refurb site its mine
Minnesota Steve
Ok, I'm seriously impressed with those rear speaker pillars.
Popular Post pkinneb
Making progress...all 6 columns are 90% complete just need to determine speaker heights so I can attach the speaker boxes to the columns. Then route and seal the edges, add some tabbing, and start the finishing process. Next up I routed the recess for the auto door bottom. I really do not want to have to remove this door once installed its a tad heavy LOL Then I put a second coat of paint on the ceiling since the artist was flying in to paint the star ceiling Monday The other items that need to be completed prior to the ceiling being panted was to install the black lights in the soffit and hang the door. First up was to mill the boards for the strip lights. The sides were straight forward but the front curve had to be kerfed as before. Then I installed the lights by screwing in some tie downs I bought on eBay and programmed the outlets to work on my control pad and iphone. It appears they are working lol Next, with the help of my son, we got the door installed I still need to finish the sill, install the seals, and make trim that will cover the gap between the walls but this will be good enough for now. Since I was unable to work in the basement on Monday night I decided it would be a great time to clean the shop. It has pretty much been a dumping ground for about a year now...so much better now Here are some pics of the ceiling all I will say is they do not do it justice it is amazing in person. The first pic is with the back lights on the others are after the paint is charged Finally I ran into a little hiccup last night while installing the back row seats to make some measurements I found a problem...Houston we have a problem This row of four seats was supposed to be 116" wide, it is 95" wide...working with the seating company now on a resolution. Most likely I will add a 5th seat unfortunately the lead time on these was 10 weeks. While unfortunate not the end of the world in the scheme of things I suppose. Finally my wife and I took a quick trip to Chicago last Thursday/Friday and picked out and ordered the front row recliners. They will be here in about a month...its getting closer

Coop
Smoke alarms are not meant to be painted, hopefully you took precautions. On a lighter note, I didn’t know they still made black lights! Heck, I could enjoy just watching your ceiling, as long as there was enough ventilation! 3 hours ago, woodbutcher74 said: Just curious, what's the first movie going to be on opening night? What’s the reasoning for that? Obviously you don’t want to glob on a bunch of paint or spray it while assembled, so that you don’t clog up the vents or get paint on the sensors, but is there some other concern? Popular Post Coop
No sir, that’s the reason. You’d be surprised. 2

And the aerosol mist can enter the detection chamber, ruining it. I wouldn't have a problem doing it if I could get the case apart to paint without destroying it.

Still working on that but i will need to do testing and dialing in of the speakers so I will need some with lots of action if possible so far on that list are Gravity, Godzilla king of the monsters, Ready Player One (car race scene and bomb scene), MI Fallout, and for nostalgia's sake Topgun. 1 hour ago, K Cooper said: Smoke alarms are not meant to be painted, hopefully you took precautions. RE the smoke alarm I knew that going in and code wise it is not a requirement but since I wanted one in the room but not a big white blob on my ceiling I took it apart and left all the insides in the house and only painted the plastic case before reassembly. It was sprayed for what its worth. Apollo 13 has been added to the sound test list!

Mark J
I enjoyed it! I think they did a reasonably good job adapting the book, which I also enjoyed. Apollo 13 is probably my all time favorite. I think I've seen it at least 13 times. The launch scene for the Saturn V is awesome. But if you want to test sound don't forget Star Wars IV.

drzaius
I think you's find it interesting to listen to music on the new system. A lot of music that was recorded in the last few years has low frequency bass (and even infrasonic) in it that you simply do not hear on even hear on a 'conventional' sound system, even a good one. There's a song by one of my favorite Canadian bands (Mother Mother) that has a really low series of notes in the bridge that you can't even hear, but at good volume, can very much be felt. I sends a wave of vibrations up through me calves to my back, upper arms & finally, the very top of my head. First time I listened to that I laughed out loud. Another fun thing. Play something bass heavy at loud volume & anything sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor above will bounce around like crazy. One night I was down there listening & my wife texted me to 'come upstairs right away & leave the music on, you gotta see this' Pretty crazy.
