We're trying to be reasonable with our budge and should be able to afford it easily between Megan and I. She did recently get a big fat raise.... so that helps . Popular Post pkinneb
Current status: Column grills and screen surround are complete Just this corner left worked out the design earlier this week and milled the lumber as well so now its just a couple more panels (5 sm, 1 lg) and some fine tuning. I also received some threaded rod to use for the door pull. I couldn't find screws long enough so went this route. The next update will be the construction complete photo's of the inside of the theater Then on to the bar cabinets...

Chet
That is looking nice, real nice. I remember you saying something earlier in the journal about the door, that thing looks like it is about 3 inches thick. Is it solid wood? We have been enjoying movies in there for several weeks now Not going to lie the picture and comfort of the room is awesome but the sound is down right incredible especially when you consider the price point. One of my last projects as a theater manager was to implement THX systems into the theaters I ran, the average cost was about $400K per theater (just for the equipment) I have less then $10K in equipment and the sound is better, it just blows my mind. We were watching the 4K version of Cliffhanger last weekend and my wife was like holy crap I feel like I can feel the wind of the sub woofers LOL. Really happy with it and definitely feel the hard work has paid off

Its a 1 3/4" slab with two sheets of 1/2" MDF glued to it. Once you add the 2" panels it will be nearly 6" thick The ball bearing hinges make for a smooth operation though. Really happy with it and definitely feel the hard work has paid off I love that room! For myself though, we have more of a multi-purpose room for the serious TV watching, with exercise equipment, piano, games etc. But I do have some serious AV in there. My wife was away for a few days getting herself a shiny new knew, so I was able to have my way with the volume control and enjoyed several hours of music & movies at unseemly levels of sound. One of the neighbors was over last night for a visit & said that sitting in her living room, she could feel her sternum vibrating. I do have limited sound proofing, but not like you, Paul, so I turn the sound way down after 9:00. What kind of professional design help did you get for the project?

I really didn't get a "professional" design per se but I did spend about 20 hours face timing during the build with a consultant who has built dozens of theaters based designs from the Erskine Group and Shawn Byrne. He was worth every cent.
Popular Post Mick S
Wow, Paul. This whole project is humbling me. Maybe if I were 20 years younger I might have undertaken it, but no way now. Suffice it to say that I'm really, really impressed! I hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years to come, and that you're patted on the back, toasted and deservedly recognized for the effort! 2
Coop
Several years ago before my dad passed, I walked in and found him cupping his ears to hear an already deafing tv. Not too long ago, I found the technique very rewording. Perhaps a visit to an audiologists would be better for an old man than an elaborate system such as yours! Beautiful job Paul!

Lol yeah I have a mother in law like that she will wear glasses for her bad eyes but when I talk about hearing aids she flips out...I don’t get it Re the theater one of the benefits of having a soundproof room with treatments like this is while you can play it loud you really don’t have too. Voices will be normal level but things like explosions well let’s just say its like being there. Another thing is with the ceiling and surround speakers you will hear something like a dog, bird, cell phone etc and wonder was that the movie or real
Popular Post pkinneb
Well I missed another deadline but it wasn't for a lack of trying, I really wanted to finish up yesterday but after messing up the panel over the door twice I decided to go to bed and start over today. its a good thing becuase had I done it last night I would have forgot about the 1/4" gap needed on the other side of the door and made it to short So here we go first up I made the door panels Then I installed the door hardware. I drilled 1/8" pilot holes in the handle blocks on the drill press then used a 10" long 1/8" drill bit to go all the way through in an effort to keep the hole straight through the almost 6" wide door. I used a forstner bit on the outside to recess the washer and nut. This will be covered with a push plate. Finally i used a 3/8" drill bit from both sides to reduce tear out then a test fit after that it was onto the final OC703 and FSK tape installation More panels complete, you can see here the top one is too long the first try was too tall Today I built the front black panel. I had to cut a dado and champfer it so the door would not get hung up on the panel. It took a bit of trial and error but I was able to get it done. Then it was on to that last panel over the door Here are all the scraps from the panels and my exercise room is a disaster but... At this point wile I still have some touch up painting, dialing in the door closer & the sound system, and need to calibrate the projector I am calling the Full Circle Cinema officially construction complete After I get through the taxes stacking up on my desk I will start on the bar cabinets... More updates in a couple weeks
Chet
Woot, Woot! That room is really something. I bet it feels good to call it done. Do you see the rest of the remodel moving at a quicker pace with less technology involved? 35 minutes ago, pkinneb said: taxes stacking up on my desk I meet with my accountant tomorrow, I hope it doesn't hurt to bad.
