wouldwurker
The nonslip stuff that you put under rugs is great for sanding. It keeps things from moving around and won't marr the surface. I bought a giant roll of it, cut what I need for a sanding job and toss it when I'm done.

wouldwurker
Glue up time. Actually had the wherewithal to make a call that was just a hair smaller than the lid to clamp it down into the rabbet. And yes that's a caul on top of the caul ...Meta-caul! What??? Popular Post wouldwurker
Sanded and a chamfer on the bottom. Wont be applying finish to the inside so I think logistically it'll be best to finish the outside while the box still one piece. Won't be any issue cutting the box or mortising the hinges. That said, its lacquer time baby.
Chet
Just wondering, you don't think you will get some chip out on the finish when you cut the top. Isn't lacquer a brittle finish?

Bankstick
That is a awesome project! I'm no WW expert but I can appreciate the time you spent in cutting and fitting. My complements to you! Seeing the burnisher reminded me that my uncle helped the teacher in shop class in high school. I was told that the old time cabinet makers and WWers used a piece of glass to burnish the wood. Anyone know of this? This would have been back in the 30s.
