Popular Post Chestnut
Easily my best and favorite project for the year. I don't get my picture taken that often so i snapped one yesterday after i spent some good hours on an ATV with the wind in my hair. I keep thinking it's only a matter of time until it all falls out.

Popular Post Bmac
I've had a great woodworking season, getting more time in the shop as the kids are now heading off to college. Completed quite a few sculptured chairs, including the one I did in a journal here on this site and a set of maloof barstools. But even though those projects were great, my favorite project this year very well may be a simple table my wife requested for in our entryway. It was a tough space because of the curved wall so I decided to make it oval. I was going to do bent lamination for the apron but scraped that idea because I wanted a streamlined/open look to the table. Since I've been doing a lot of sculptured chairs I said why not a maloof joint to connect the legs to the top. Then the for the lower shelf I used the radius of the top to develop the concave curves. If I don't have sawdust under my feet my next favorite thing is to have sand under my feet. I'm an avid surfcaster, not a boat guy. This fish was my best so far this year off the sand. And If I'm not in the shop or on the beach I'm coaching High School Baseball.
Coop
@bmac, I really like that table. And @chashint, boxes are how I got my start and still like doing them. Check out Any books by Doug Stowe. He’s my box hero.

My favourite project this year is our dining table. It was a lot of fun putting this thing together.

Popular Post Art
This is a picture of my daughter I looking serious in our matching shirts, during a recent trip to Nova Scotia: This is my favourite project this year. It's not exactly fine woodworking, and it took way too long, but is finally finished. It replaces the ugly, boring contractor special back deck that came with our house. We needed a larger deck and a place for our Kamado Joe. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, and now I can concentrate on more interesting projects - I've got most of the wood milled for my Roubo, but haven't yet started on actual construction. Other than that, I've done some small shop projects, and a couple of bookshelves for my daughter. I tend to work at a very slow pace, but I'll try to post photos of the real projects as I get to them:
Coop
Yeah @Art! Really neat looking cooking area. Well done. Enjoy your daughters company now as it won’t be long before it’s cap and gown and then bridal gown, from experience!

I looked at ipe, but it's very expensive, and the guy at the yard recommended kayu balu which is an Indonesian hardwood that is similar in many ways to ipe, but less expensive. It isn't easy to work with (very dense and hard), but it looks great. It's finished with Messmers UV Plus, so hopefully other than occasional touch ups, it should be good for many years. Brendon_t
Wow that deck looks amazing. What's the deal with the red thing embedded into the surface? Some sort of smoker it looks like?

Cumaru is another sub for ipe that looks great & is much cheaper. I've use Messmers on my ipe deck & to keep it looking like it does now, you'll be doing every year or 2. Several years ago I gave up & it has gone naturally grey. I like the look of it & it doesn't get nearly as hot under the full sun.
Brendon_t
Got it thanks. I've never gotten into high end grills. My last few have been sub $150 Walmart specials that I replace after 4 or 5 years. I grill a bunch so I pretty much run them into the ground. Popular Post Chet
Well this is my favorite project so far and probably because it is the most recent and I imagine a lot of you have already seen it in the journal build but here it is again. And this is me with my older brother and two younger sisters. I'm the big guy on the left. I also thought that I would add a photo from the way back machine... My entire family, I'm the blonde kid with the buzz cut. I think I was about ten years old here, so about 1962 I guess.

Brendon_t
Larry, impressive resume and beautiful piece. I'd love to see a showcase on it if you feel like showing er off. Aw not the ears.. I was thinking of getting them pierced. Whatcha think? Don't you have some neighborhood kids to torment with the hose? BTW, I may FedEx overnight you a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 if you spray ol Ken down when he's walking up the porch in a few days.. Not saying I put you up to it... Not saying I didn't.
