Popular Post Chet
Next I cut the rabbets in the top and bottom pieces on the router table. And cleaned them up with the router plane. Then I laid out for the joinery. After that I chamfered all the outside edges and the front inside edge of the side frames... Top and bottom front edge of the bottom and... Top and bottom edge of the top piece. After this I cut my joints. My chosen tool for this is my PC Biscuit Jointer (insert laugh track here)... I was offered the opportunity to use a Domino for this and it was tempting offer but I decided that I wanted to build this project with tools that I normally have at my disposal in my shop. I did the cuts in the top and bottom pieces first. Then the cuts in the side panels which were a little more of a challenge to set up because the machine would have to be in a vertical alinement. I finally came up with the idea of moving the adjustable part of my miter fence back until it allowed the side frame to be flush with the front edge of the miter station. Then I was able to hold the machine in the vertical alinement and have the clearance that I needed for the plunge.

shaneymack
Looking great, Chet ! Your biscuit joiner looks like its older than me LOL. Time for a domino to match all the other amazing tools you have in that shop. The biscuit joiner is out of place !

Popular Post Chet
It's been a while, even retired people let other things get in the way of shop time. But what i have accomplished in the last couple days is getting the boxes glued up. There are no action shots on this glue up. It was all hands on deck and the day was kind of warm and I need to keep moving. In hind site I wish I had thought of getting some Titebond III to give me a little easier time. Two down - last one in the clamps. And all three done. This took a while because I only have four clamps that are long enough. While each one of the boxes were in clamps I was working on the back panels and the escape hatch that is the top portion of the back and allows you to take the door in and out as the need arises. The back panel is 1/4 inch walnut ply with a small rabbet in the top edge and the top hatch is 3/4 walnut with rabbets the one that overlaps the ply is deeper then the other ones so everything ends up flush. Details of the rabbets on the top hatch.

Popular Post Chet
I got this new Fuji Semi Pro sprayer that I am itching to use, and I am planning GF High Performance water bourne.

estesbubba
The Fuji spraying GF HP will be a nice finish and you'll love spraying a project that big. I like to put a first coat of garnet shellac under waterbornes to warm the finish like an oil-based. Both shellac and waterbornes spray like a dream.

I am pretty happy with how it is coming out so far. It's not flawless but fortunately I have recently learned some techniques for fixing those flaws. And I have added to my skill set. gee-dub
Really appreciating the progress and process shots Chet. This piece is coming along nicely. Some sort of barrister is on my bucket list. I keep trying to con someone into asking for one but, I may just have to make one for myself. I assume another panel goes into the bottom of each section to straddle the left-to-right rails? I really like the clean modern lines on this version. You are correct gee-dub. The Barrister bookcases are meant to be a stacking set of bookcases. Technically you could keep adding "modules" if you wanted. The missing center piece will be mounted to the box below to create an interlock. So there will be a center piece in the base, one on top of the bottom box and one on top of the middle box, And then all boxes will have a false bottom to hide this interlock. Coop
I bought this when it first came out as I thought it looked like a great piece, but never pursued it. But now Chet you've inspired me to the point where I will find room to put this and make it my next major project. Looking great dude!
