davewyo
Spectacular work, Chet! Excellent journal too. Thanks for the ride...
estesbubba
Chet that turned out gorgeous and your journal was great to follow. I'm glad you tried the finish and as others have said, you nailed it! You can spray the shellac at noon and be done with 3 coats of waterborne 4 hours later. I own this project and really want to find a way to build it but don't have a need for it right now. Maybe I'll incorporate the sides and other parts of it when I build the dresser to go with the bed.
Alan G
I like the wavy glass. Nice touch! The whole project turned out great and was a great journal to follow along.
Janello
Haven't been over here to this part of the forum in a while. Chet, outstanding job! Love the different glass touch. That really makes it unique.

ChrisG-Canada
Very nice. I'm thinking about building a pair of these bookcases sometime in the new year. I'm considering asking a friend to make curstom glass panels for the top pane of each case. My friend has a glass kiln and does a lot of decorative glass artwork. Might be nice if I can design something suitable...

I'm currently building this and with Marc's videos and Chet's journal, they've definately taken the guess work out. Good luck bud!

bleedinblue
@Chet K or @thewoodwhisperer Any guesstimates of board footage in the solid wood? I gather there is a sheet of 1/4 and 3/4 ply. I have an old friend asking for a bookcase with glass doors, this seems like a good fit and a fun build, I just don't know if the budget may scare him off. Chet
About 32 - 33 board feet and that gives you a 10% waste factor. If it helps the glass I used was around $150 for the three pieces, I am sure if you use the regular clear glass like in the plans, the price would be less.
bleedinblue
That helps a lot, thanks!
Chet
I should have mentioned I grabbed that number from the sketch up plans from guild build. But I bet I was closer to 30% waste by the time I bought the pieces I wanted and then eliminated the sap wood.
Coop
Chet, if you had it to do over again, would you have banded the exposed edges of the 3/4 ply that centers the four pieces? I've taken mine apart a couple of times to move them and each time I see the raw edges, I wish I had.
Popular Post Chet
No, not really. I just don't take it apart in front of company.
