Coop Posted April 28, 2024 Report Posted April 28, 2024 That’s cool! Cody looks like he’s in hog heaven! Did he get the shirt while you were there or did he already have it? 1 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted April 28, 2024 Report Posted April 28, 2024 @Coop, he already had that shirt from visiting a model rail show last year. And, yes, he had a blast. 1 1 Quote

Popular Post legenddc Posted April 28, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted April 28, 2024 Jealous you're out and about with your son! Been mostly stuck inside since Friday with my son who has the flu. My great escape yesterday was bringing my daughter to her tennis practice and yard sale. We bought my son a new bike that needs a tune up. Might take him to the carwash later as he's getting bored of the couch. 4 Quote
Popular Post Tpt life Posted April 28, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted April 28, 2024 Celebrated 22 years with my wife yesterday. Did some shopping and ate some Jamaican inspired. Spent the afternoon on Lake Michigan. She sat on the beach while I hiked seven miles of back country and dunes. Both in our happy place. If you have not visited your happy place recently, this should be your prompt to go do that. The stress reduction is completely worth it. 9 Quote

legenddc Posted April 29, 2024 Report Posted April 29, 2024 Both kids are home sick today. Projects keep backing up without an end in sight around here. Got 12 bags of mulch out yesterday. Probably need to go get 15 more. Will try to get it Wednesday when it's a bit cooler out. Tried to get bulk mulch delivered but they couldn't deliver it for a while. Still need to plant the replacement azalea. Noticed the hose spigot out back is leaking some outside. Will need to replace that and then repair whatever drywall I have to cut in the near future. Headed to the dentist soon to figure out what work I need done and hopefully get that scheduled. 2 1 Quote
legenddc Posted April 29, 2024 Report Posted April 29, 2024 Dentist wanted to schedule surgery for Wednesday. 2 weeks of only soft foods and limited lifting. After speaking with my wife I've rescheduled it for July 9th. Right after a vacation and 3 weeks before the next. With two kids sick and my parents unable to help it's too crazy right now. 4 Quote

gee-dub Posted May 2, 2024 Report Posted May 2, 2024 Wow, that is a super delicate look. Kudos on the great period appearance. Can’t wait to follow the finishing journey. What an inspiration. 1 Quote
Coop Posted May 3, 2024 Report Posted May 3, 2024 @pkinneb, the arm rest that continues around the back, are the spindles one piece and go thru it or are they two pieces and terminate in that back piece? Having seen your amazing work, I suspect they are one piece and if so, you did a great job in drilling the tight angled holes. I’m sure that was no easy feat! Quote

Yes they are one piece which to be honest you are right it was no easy feat. You have a several things going on the different angle for nearly every hole, controlling the drill to get a clean hole, and probably the hardest thing getting the spindles shaped to a specific size for nearly 12 inches. Its all doable with a little practice but I would be lying if I didn't say I was sooo done with drilling holes by the time I got to the top bow. Ultimately it was a fun but challenging project. I have to finish up several projects that I have started but this fall I hope to make one of the harder Windsor chairs i've seen called the bird cage arm chair. 4 Quote
Mark J Posted May 3, 2024 Report Posted May 3, 2024 @pkinneb, with that explanation I am even more impressed. I always assumed the spindle was two pieces. That is difficult to turn (good thing you've got that new lathe ). What makes the birdcage style chair more difficult? 1 Quote

Actually the spindles are hand shaped with spokeshave's on this chair The difficulty is kind of three fold first the back spindles are steam bent after being shaped, second the spindles and arms are splayed making the drilling accuracy even more important as a slight error at the bottom will cause a much larger change at the top. With the two rails being so close together at the top of the chair you cannot physically bend them like you can where you have a 20" spindle, finally the duck billed corners at the top outside of the chair posts. They appear to be miters but they are not, pulling that off takes some accuracy becuase if the joint isn't perfect it would be obvious its not a miter if that makes sense. FWIW I'm still researching but I believe the spindles on this chair are turned so I will need more lathe practice as well. 3 Quote

I’m fairly certain I’ll need about 3 adapters to get the temporary hookup done, but I’ll figure something out. It doesn’t help that almost nobody puts plumbing fittings back in the correct bin. Forgot to follow up, I adapted GHT to 3/4” hose barb for 3/4” reinforced tubing, then on the other side did 3/4” hose barb to 3/4” FPT and then 3/4” MPT to 1” slip PVC. I still need to backfill the trench but the hydrant is working well and it is great to have running water near our chicken coop and gardens. Flow is great with the 1” pvc, even though it starts out through the spigot and a couple feet of 3/4” tubing. 7 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted May 4, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted May 4, 2024 First coat of red on the sack back. The back spindles proved to be challenging yet again becuase the paint can and does run through the holes 8 Quote

legenddc Posted May 7, 2024 Report Posted May 7, 2024 Sorry to hear about Meeka. I hope everyone is staying safe between tornados and flooding and whatever other natural disasters are happening. Been sick with the flu since Thursday here. It was kind enough to go through us all one at a time for the last 2 weeks. 3 Quote
