treeslayer 2588 Report post Posted July 17 Had some short pieces of butternut and needed a piece for the church auction, box joints, butternut and walnut, Spanish Cedar interior with a lift out tray, Vertex 90 degree stop hinges, 3 coats ARS satin, thanks for looking and comments and questions are welcome as usual
Chestnut 3836 Report post Posted July 17 That's awesome! Beautiful work. I really love how well the butternut and walnut work together. The end grain on the box joints get nice and dark and because the woods are so closely related it almost looks like you did a walnut inlay on the corners. I'm a millennial so pardon my ignorance, but are cigars still that common?
Bmac 705 Report post Posted July 17 Really nice inlay work on the top of that! I agree with Nut, took a double take on that end grain thinking it was walnut. I'd love to see a side shot.

pkinneb 2369 Report post Posted July 17 That is some awesome craftsmanship there! The nice tight joints in that top are very impressive. Curious are the groves in the the bottom functional or for looks? I haven't smoked anything in decades but I still have a humidor on my build bucket list I just think they are cool and this one is no exception...I also want to build a guitar and have no knowledge or desire to learn how to play

treeslayer 2588 Report post Posted July 17 @pkinneb, I get what you’re looking at now, that’s a tray that lifts out, groves are for air circulation around the stogies
Chet 4041 Report post Posted July 17 Dave that is a premium piece of work. I hope your church get some good money for that. A humidor like that deserves it. 1
K Cooper 6284 Report post Posted July 17 Very well done Dave! The walnut that divides the box from the lid, was that an integral part of the build and you sliced the two pieces apart a that point? The lid is awesome.

Thanks Coop, the kid was cut most of the way thru on the TS and finished with a hand saw, the walnut on the lid and the main box and on the bottom was added later, I didn’t have too but I thought it would be a nice touch
DerekMPBS 45 Report post Posted July 17 Wow, that is gorgeous. I love the inlay on the top as well, and Chesnut is right - the contrast of butternut and walnut is really nice. The box joints are a nice touch as well. Great work!
K Cooper 6284 Report post Posted July 17 An inspiration to make me get the butternut out that I got from Rickey.

treeslayer 2588 Report post Posted July 17 Thanks Rick, Mike’s in Florida has them too, I’m not including anything but the box, it’s a donation so whoever gets it can buy their own
Mark J 1372 Report post Posted July 18 It's really a nice job, Dave. Still before you donate it I think you should test it out. Buy a cigar and put it in the humidor. Then take it out and smoke it, maybe with a sip of whiskey, just to be sure. You've certainly earned it.

gee-dub 2904 Report post Posted July 20 Just catching up on this. Beautiful work with some well chosen material. Great detail on the mating edges with mitered trim. Love the subtle recessed pull too.
K Cooper 6284 Report post Posted July 22 Dave, for the helluva it, can you do a journal on the top/lid someday? I have yet figured out how you did that. Thanks.
