Eric.
I feel like this topic has come up before but I'm too lazy to search for it. My wife and MIL want to get me a custom brand for my birthday (which has come and gone). They say it's heresy that I don't (as Steve would say)...sign and date it! Does anyone know a good source for these? They think this should cost about $300, to give you an idea of my price range. I also have no artistic ability so I have no "logo" or whatever. It's probably gonna be something boring like hand crafted, my name, St. Louis, MO, or something similar...but I don't want something so generic as the Rockler brands. Thanks for suggestions... wtnhighlander
Anyone with a CNC router and a chunk of brass should be able to mill one to say whatever you want, so long as you can heat it externally. I heat mine on the kitchen stove. If you want electric, it might get more complicated.
Coop
I received one for Christmas, the electric one from Rockler. $120 plus tax and shipping will get you a pretty decent one with several patterns to choose from and the "signature " is crisp and clean. rodger.
I have one from Lee Valley, which was a gift as well. Works wonderfully! It's electric, so no torch needed. http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=32190&cat=1,43456,43462,32190

-MattK-
I got a really nice one from these guys: http://gearheartindustry.com/ (though I got mine via etsy) you can send them a logo and they'll make the brand. Mine's approx. 2" square and was $195. Oh, and it plugs in, so it has the source of heat in it and you don't need to heat it up with something else. Here's an example of the brand on a piece of veneer. "rare wood works" is a joke name for my make believe woodworking business because I rarely actually make anything ;-)
sjk
@James Wright has a video on one he made In the video he mentioned where he sent out to have the iron printed and how inexpensive it was.
TerryMcK
+1 on Brandingirons.com They do custom jobs to any design, electrically powered or regular heated with a torch ones. I got one and it's superb.
Gixxerjoe04
I used this guy, did a good job and pretty cheap, just make sure you get an electric heat one, sure is annoying heating it with a torch hoping to get it heated evenly. http://makersmarkbranding.com
Eric.
Cool, thanks for the suggestions...I think I have enough to pick from now for sure. Now...who knows where I can get a logo dreamed up and made for cheap?
Gixxerjoe04
I can't remember the website, but there's some site where people offer their computer/artist skills to make people's logos or whatever you want really, can get one made for like $10. Will try to think of what it's called.

Cliff
My wife got me this one for xmas: http://www.amazon.com/Branding-Iron-Electric-BN-117U-Handcrafted/dp/B000IUWF9Q For logos, fiverr is good. You can also try Shutterstock. I buy graphics from there to use on client websites because I'm not a graphics designer. Find something you like, purchase it and never have to talk to a single person. My kind of transaction. http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?autocomplete_id=&language=en&lang=en&search_source=&safesearch=1&version=llv1&searchterm=woodworking&media_type=images
