Tom Cancelleri
Seriously wish I knew what they were smoking in Ohio with this one. $600 for a doweling jig, and $639 for the systainer version. That's at the point where you say screw it and buy a domino. Sometimes I wonder if they get a lot of orders for some of the one time tools.
Chestnut
I had this same thought this morning. I honestly wondered if there isn't a fan club that buys the OTT regardless of what it is.
TerryMcK
Yes I agree Tom. I wouldn't consider a dowelling jig for that price and would opt for the domino too. I have bought one or two of their tools and the clamping squares (which aren't one time tools) are awesome.
Eric.
x3...just had exactly the same thoughts. Plus, if you're dead-set on getting a dowel jig, you can get a Dowelmax for less than $300 I think, and I'll go out on a limb and say it works fine. Woodpeckers has jumped the shark.
mkrusen
The thing looks like it came off the USS Enterprise or something. $600 for a doweling jig... what the hell are they thinking? I'll stick with my Domino.
Woodenskye
C'mon guys it is so versitle. You can also use it to drill shelf pin holes! Doesn't everyone need a 4 pound paper weight in the shop, that you won't get until 2018!
..Kev
Have the Dowelmax, never use it. Can't even remotely justify this one!
Tom Cancelleri
I will say this. I have a bunch of woodpecker stuff comprised of rulers, router lift rings, the giant 26" Every So Often Tool framing square, story stick, and I'm waiting on the Paolini pocket rule from a few months ago. They do make high quality accurate stuff, in the USA which I appreciate. Their machining is top notch. That said I will quote Marc here and "poo poo" this 4 pound shelf pin dowel jig as something that solves no problem that anyone has.
Immortan D
A $600 jig should address the drill depth setting too. Apparently this one does not. I hate drill bit collars, they shift, make the bit wobble, etc.
Llama
I'd rather buy another block plane from BCTW... Seriously, is this a fricken joke? Who the hell comes up with that crap!?!??! There are so many other things they could re-make rather than come out with this garbage. This is rather insulting for them to believe this is necessary. Just saw this in the url... It IS a joke!!!

pkinneb
Yeah I have some of there rules and squares but I had to scratch my head on this one...
Immortan D
I guess the target of this jig is people who actually use dowels in their projects on a daily basis. It is well engineered, I like the variable distance feature and the long rods, and it looks stable, but it is overpriced.
Popular Post shaneymack
So I think this thread brings up an important question. Whats better, domino or dowel? Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
wdwerker
Domino is better by far ! Did anybody notice the metric bushings are an extra $

Bulldog
Am I the only one that hesitated before clicking on this thread? This forum has already gotten me an 18" triangle and soon some rulers. I'm pretty glad that the gamble was cost free ?

Add the systainer with the optional metric bushings and you are within $20 of a Domino! That's just plain crazy. They don't even provide the drill bits. I own a few woodpecker products, and really like them. But, really wonder where they come up with some of this stuff.
prov163
I've got a few of their tools - love my Paolini rule and and router table with the sidewinder lift. $600 for a doweling jig is insane - no matter how well it's made. I'm always willing to pay a reasonable price for a well made tool - if I need it. That said, I agree it makes more sense to buy a Domino at that price. Dknapp34
When I got the ad for this in my email, I was actually thinking that this looks like a pretty amazing downing jig. Way more functional than my old Stanley. Then I saw the price. And laughed. I love Woodpeckers and have several squares and a rule, but $600, c'mon.
