On another forum, there are folks who never seem to have anything of value to say or just insist on repeating bad information. There is a "block" feature I use so I am not bothered by what they have to say. I didn't let the things I didn't like keep me from the things I did like about the site. Just an idea. I think we are pretty much all in agreement that the forum is a better forum with both Eric and Shane as active contributors. I don't doubt that I was partially responsible for Shane's absence. I can't imagine it's the sole reason but it probably didn't help. We butted heads a few times over silly things but I didn't think any of it was that heavy. But hey, who am I to say whether or not he should be offended? The last forum I was on I got into a disagreement with the moderator who was a lady that didn't do any woodworking. Then they booted me. There was a conversation last night about a guy whose grandfather had built him a table of some sort, and the red oak top split badly, clearly because wood movement wasn't taken into account. For every one of us who says there will be more problems if the construction isn't fixed, there are ten who say to epoxy the crack or install some Dutchmen and call it good. This is exactly why I generally don't participate in that group, or even the guild facebook group (which is admittedly WAY better than the gen pop facebook group). The signal to noise ratio is way way way too low. I find the information here to be of far far higher quality. Could just be me though. I think the more effort it takes to participate in a forum of information, the higher quality the information (which seems like a "duh" statement I guess). This is to say nothing of the horrific technical functionality of the facebook groups - impossible to search, etc. None of that is meant to be a shot at Marc or Nicole - they do a great job moderating - it's just the reality of facebook. 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have left most of the FB groups about woodworking for this reason and spend 90% of my time on FB in the guild group for that reason. I have almost been spending more and more time on Instagram as I find I can keep it more "pure" to the woodworking content I want to see without news/viral/kardashian/reality tv/clickbait infecting the feed.
