Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk How wide are those boards you glued up for the panels? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk They varied in width and those panels were a lot of work. Plane down, glue up, drum sand for hours with some across the grain which caused a crapload of ROS sanding. Next time plywood is sounding good although I like how these solid wood turned out 17 minutes ago, Chestnut said: Can you remind me what you did for finish? The shellac warms up the finish and really gives nice depth.
Chet
You know Mike, I could of lived with the back being the front. I actually has a real different look.

Now I'm spraying the drawers which is really boring. Here is the back with the sapwood - I actually would have been fine if this was the front. Absolutely stunning Mike!
Popular Post estesbubba
Bed is assembled, mattress is being delivered tomorrow, and all I have to do is cut drawer fronts to size and finish. You guys think 1/8" gap between drawers is good?
pkinneb
Wow estesbubba that turned out great! I really like the top edge design you used.
wtnhighlander
1/8" should work wonderfully.
Eric.
For something that huge I think 1/8" would be fine. Ordinarily for smaller pieces I would want less of a gap than that. As long as it's equal all the way around...I think that's more important. Looks really nice Mike.
Chet
I can't say anything but WOW! Nice.
..Kev
Looks amazing Mike! I'd shoot for 1/16 to 1/8. I'm not sure I'd like 1/8 but, then again, I don't have the actual piece sitting in front of me either. I think you've proven that you'll make a great decision!
Elroy Skimms
For large drawers that are not at eye-level, I like 1/8" gap on the sides and 1/4" on the top. Based on the viewing angle, the 1/4" gap shrinks if you are looking down at it (or up). If you go with 1/8" all around, the top & bottom gaps will look smaller unless you are laying on the ground looking straight at them. -E
Popular Post estesbubba
This monster is finally done! Final tally is 125 BF of cherry purchased, 7 sheets of 3/4" plywood and 1 sheet of 1/2" plywood. Finish is garnet shellac followed by satin water-based poly all sprayed. My biggest mistake on the project was the drawer grain running the wrong direction which I can live with. Right now we are going with no drawer pulls and there is a cove on the bottom to open them. My wife and I are very happy how it turned out! Thanks for following along. After the Roubo then this bed, no more big projects for a while!

gee-dub
estesbubba, that came out even nicer than I had pictured from your progress shots. It really takes advantage of the cherry material and everyone can use extra storage. Great job.

Thx for that info btw, will helpful when I build something similar later this year Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk I used FWW May 2014 for ideas on the platform cabinets. Plywood is used for toekick, cabinet, platform that sits on cabinet, and drawers. Being a king sized bed it used a lot of plywood! Thanks everyone for the compliments.
