Mark J
Impressive, Mick. But serious question, is the fit a little too tight? Or am I overestimating the glue induced swelling one would expect?

Or am I overestimating the glue induced swelling one would expect? It’s a big mortise and tenon. ¾” x 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. I’m using epoxy so it should not only give me plenty of open time, but also allow the joints to slip together easily. I also slotted the tenon stock for pressure release after shooting that video.
Popular Post Chestnut
I guess it's kinda part of my remodel project but I got all of this done today. Have a closet in our laundry room. It's out main coat closet, but also stores a bunch of other things. The previous setup just had the rod running perpendicular to how it's pictured below. The closet is 50" x 25" with 9 foot ceilings. Before there was a shelf above the coat rod and it never was well utilized and then a bunch of dead space above that you never could quite get to. I mentioned to the wife if we rotated the closet rods we'd have just as much coat storage but the shelving would be far more useful. So i rotated everything 90 degrees and was able to get 6 25" wide shelves vs 1 50" shelf. This way the coats are easier to get in and out as well. The Baltic birch i used to mount the upper shelves looks worse in picture than it does in person. It's so dark in there you can't really see it. The shelves are all paper birch, because i got it cheap and pine is expensive these days. Finish is all shellac for speed. Start to pictures above was 10 hours.

Popular Post Mick S
Making progress on the carriage doors. A whole bunch of fairly light wood gets heavy when you put it together. Glad I didn’t go with white oak!

Popular Post Mick S
Last time I whacked him on the knuckles for swiping my pencil was shortly before COVID took hold. Right after that, they closed the border with Canada. Coincidence? I don't think so. 1

legenddc
Finally got the Dust Deputy cyclone I found used set up. Need a hose to go from the vac to the cyclone, but at least it works. My 3 year old son helped me drill the holes on the bucket lid and vacuum up a bunch while I got shocked from it. I tried to sneak down later to set up my jointer knives but he caught me and came downstairs. Hard to set them up (for the first time) with a wriggling kid on your lap. I ended up cutting my finger with the non-sharp side of the knife and decided I'll have to try it again when he's asleep. Thrilled he's taking an interest but I need to come up with some fun easy things for him to do so he doesn't get bored.
legenddc
Downloaded a decibel app to see how loud the cicadas are outside my house. Inside it was reading under 50, outside was 78-82 db. Also clocked my shop vac at 85 db and air compressor at 89 db. 1

Toddler + mallet = zero boredom. Just be sure he has safe things to whack on.
Coop
Ross, it’s obvious that it has been a long time since you’ve had a toddler! Might as well get him a set of drums and a bugle too!
