Popular Post gee-dub
I'm excited. Lots to do. Hoping to be ready for final inspection in a week. 30 x 40 x 10, 2x6 construction. I took the original bid on the concrete work a year ago . . . thank you COVID for making the 'molasses in January' pace of the local bureaucracy take even longer than expected. The cost doubling (or more) of some materials has me rethinking some things. Most of the things I need I already bought or have gone up only about 30%. The concrete went up twice but my deal was locked in. The Tuff-Shed structure has had 4 price increases since I bought last year. Its kind of like the hardwoods I have stockpiled. I'm saving money just by having bought it at the "normal" price back when I did.
wtnhighlander
Congrats on getting it rolling, @gee-dub! I bet the only day it rained was the day you planned to pour concrete, right?
Popular Post gee-dub
@wtnhighlander, Funny you should say that. It rained (well, what we call rain anyway) the few days before the building was going up. Despite repeated warnings about the electrical trench one guy pulled in and stopped right on it. It had been back-filled and compacted but, none of that means squat compared to Mother Nature's compacting process. His buddy was waving him forward like crazy but, for some reason he just sat there and sank up to the axle. This meant the other trucks/trailers that arrived had to stop behind him. Parts had to be carried to the slab when there was roadway leading right beside it. The poor guy got grief all day long from his guys. They work fast. Here's 9am: And here's 5pm: If they would have had 3 more hours of daylight I would have been inspected today. 10
Chestnut
That is starting to look like one heck of a shop. Are you going to have water and sewer in there or just electric?

Popular Post gee-dub
About 70 miles due east of Santa Monica. I'm taking advantage of the lull to seal saw joints and mark stud locations. I've done this floor and ceiling in other shops and the short time spent on the little marks pays back well later on.
legenddc
I bet I could still miss the studs with those marks on the floor! Looking good. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Coop
Are 2x6 studs required due to the span with no interior load bearing walls?

It breaks 100* regularly in summer and I wanted the insulating factor. I'll be running a couple of mini-splits. I also just felt better about the 2x6 walls. There are 100 year old buildings in Cali that wouldn't make it through one Nebraska winter. 2x4 is standard. 1

B1rdhunter
I don't see any pvc sticking up through that concrete so I would guess no water and sewer.
Popular Post gee-dub
The wonders of PEX. No sewer; less than 50 feet from the house.

Forget all that running to the house, if nature calls, nature is getting a sprinkle of tinkle. If is good enough for the animals, it’s good enough for me. 1
