Popular Post Chet
Not really a journal just a few pictures of the process. This has been on my list of things I wanted to build for a long time. I started it back in April sometime but because of some medical issues here in the household I have only been able to work on it in bits and starts, but finally finished it yesterday. It's made from white oak, the hardware was purchased from Gerstner & Sons The sides, top and bottom I made up from 1/4" birch plywood with 3/16" white oak glued up on both sides using my vacuum bag, this gave me a final thickness of 5/8". Dry fit of the case Case glued up and front edges trimmed out and drawer runners glued in place. Drawer boxes complete Drawer fronts added AND the end result. The tool cabinet that it will set on I did at the end go last year. I wanted it a little more robust because of some of the tools that would be stored there so it was made from baltic birch ply. I edited the thread to add a picture showing the drawer interior.

gee-dub
Beautiful piece Chet. Just a really nice looking rig. I like the hardware choice and the way the cabinets nest together. I would like to see / hear more about your large panel veneering method. Do you veneer stock and then rip and glue up like solid material, do you use multiple pieces of veneer on a single plywood panel to get the width, or something else? TIA

I glued up 3 pieces of veneer to make my panels the width that I needed. I don't know, when it's 3/16" thick can you still legally call it veneer? I joint the edges of the veneers and then ran a strip of blue tape along the joints, flip them over and then run a small bead of glue in each joint and then let it lay flat on the work bench, letting gravity do the work, no clamps. I let them set for about a half hour and then spread the veneer glue on the ply, put my panels in place, blue tape everything at the edges so it doesn't slide around while getting it in the vacuum bag. When I cut the ply panels, I cut them so the grain was in a horizontal orientation so that when I glued the veneers to the ply, the grain of the veneers was perpendicular to the grain of the ply. Just picture of th final product in the bag. 2
