Popular Post Eric.
Back to breadboards. Rounding the tenons... Finessing the fit. Gotta love a rabbet plane when it's the right tool for the job... Elongate those holes... Time for some grue... And some cramps... And pins... Frush trim... Finished product, number uno: Finished product, number dooce: Next up - cutting the lids to final size and starting on hinges.

It doesn't quite get the mileage I'd hoped for but it has a ton of cargo space and it's perfect for my business. No seats in the back, wide open...and you could stack plywood in there until the tires burst.

That's my beat up Marples junker that I keep for exactly this purpose...sawing gluey dowels. I also have a very nice flush trim saw that hangs in the tool cabinet and is only used on clean wood. That Marples is one of the best pieces of junk I've ever bought though...never seems to dull and keeps cutting even with the glue clogging up the teeth...and it was only like ten bucks or so. Guest
I am on my second marples japanese style saw. The first one finally got fubared when I cut into some not cured epoxy. But for $10 they can't be beat.

drzaius
I got one from LV, I think. It's double edged & so thin that it slices through dowels like a hot knife through lard.
wdwerker
Yep, those cheap Japanese style pull saws will take a lot of abuse. I keep one in my install tool bucket and it goes thru hell. When it has lost enough teeth and cuts poorly it gets replaced.
RichardA
I get the Irwin ones from the big box dump. simple and will work as good as most any you can waste money on!
Popular Post Eric.
We did the hinges yesterday but I neglected to take any pics of that. Oops. I had a little spare time today so I made the jig for the lid stay installation and made a couple test cuts. Now it's just point and shoot x4. After that, the construction is done. We'll spend half a day next week sanding every nook and cranny up to 220, then it's on to finish. So crose.
estesbubba
Looking good and I see you made the jig out of your favorite wood.
Eric.
That's an old scrap of not so QS QSWO. Red oak is not allowed in my shop.

Eric.
One last update before we wrap this up for good forever thank dog. The construction is done. I mortised for the lid stays yesterday, and this morning we trimmed the lids to final size, did some finish sanding up to 220... Blew out the shop and gave them a once over with the vac... and applied the first coat of finish... No more pics until they're done. It's anti-climactic otherwise.

Eric.
Yep, of course, you guys know me. Originally I wanted to spray them with lacquer because I have this Fuji and it just sits and collects dust...and I think this would have been the perfect project both for spraying and for lacquer. But in the end I fell back to my comfort zone and went with the ARS...again...as usual. But hey, on the bright side - no surprises, no disappointments. And I did buy a gallon this time...that's a first!

Nah, we basically hate each other by now. The way brothers hate each other when they hang out too much for too long. I've known Joe for many years and we know how to push each other's buttons. The end can't come soon enough.
