shaneymack
Coming along great Shane. Looks like your covering some ground on this one lately. We are signing for our new house on July 18th. We get the keys the 22nd at 9am. We will be painting for three days and then moving the house on the 25th and the shop on the 26th. It's going to be a really busy month. I want this project at 90% before we move. I will store it somewhere and bring it to the new place once the new shop is somewhat organised and do the final touches and finishing. Dads bday is sept 20th. Mick S
Great project build, Shane! You've motivated me to get a cabinet scraper with my Father's Day coupon! I'm spending many many hours in the shop this month working on Doors & drawers for the kitchen remodel and I still feel like a slacker after seeing this.

I'm glad I've helped you in your decision to get a cabinet scraper they are amazing. If you can sharpen a card scraper, you can sharpen one of these. I prefer the cabinet scraper over the card scraper. Incase you are curious, the one I have is the veritas. http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=46266&cat=1,230,41182,68491 Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

Brendon_t
Boy Shane, you've got that scraper dialed in beautifully. I think it's mostly user error but I can't get those types of actual wide shavings from one.

Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk I have. The major issue I run into is having the burr either too open or closed. Hard to get right by hand without practice and i quit practicing when it just pisses me off.

Popular Post shaneymack
I worked on that bottom reveal of the upper door with the LAJ Next up I made the face plate mounting brackets. I had to modify mine because I am using thicker plywood than the plan and i am adding veneer to it. I marked out the ply for the cutouts needed for the clock winding holes and the hole for the rod that adjusts the chimes Cut it out with the Vecturo Marked out for the clock face I cut some veneers to glue to the plywood around the clock face to make it look like its sitting in a frame I was so excited to install the magnets for the door stops. I did that last thing this evening and that really ended my shop time on a crappy note. I bought the magnets that sit in cups from lee valley and they are terrible for this application. The magnet doest stop center on the plate so the door doesn't close enough or it closes too much. Ugh. Pain in the @#$ ! Things were going too good, something had to go wrong ! Lol I will try and take those out and just glue in some regular 1/2" magnets. No cups no plates. The issue will be getting those magnets out of the cups. wdwerker
K & J Magnetics ! When it has to be right ! They have magnets with a countersink for the screw, but don't overtighten the screw. Magnets are brittle and will crack from an overtightened screw. Use the biggest magnet you can lay your hands on to pull that magnet out of the cup. Then slide the magnet sideways to get it off the big one, slowly & carefully. PM me with any questions. A stack of magnets might work to pull the one from the cup.

Popular Post shaneymack
I continued with gluing the veneer onto the ply for the clock face Heres what it looks like Next I started working on the seat for the movement The risers on either side have a little angled block glued to it to match the angle of the side of the clock Here it is assembled I clamped it in place and adjusted the height with a small hammer. The posts on the movement need to line up perfectly in the holes on the clock face Here is the movement. Its pretty impressive So first try you can see it did not line up Lowered it with a couple shots with the hammer. And perfection Next was installing the chime Here is the chime mount That piece mounts to the back and the chime gets screwed to the front of the mount View from the top. Pretty neat After that i glued up the top Took it out of the clamps and drum sanded it. The edges will be beveled. I left the top as thick as possible, it's close to one inch thick. Glass is cut and at the store waiting for me to pick it up. New magnets are on their way. Hopefully this thing will be done in the next few days. Bankstick
Interesting thread and great photos. The little guy seems to have a critical eye on your work. I would say, from the rest of the thread, you passed inspection. Great idea and an item to be passed down.
Popular Post shaneymack
Been so busy I forgot to update the thread. The clock is more or less built. Just sanding and finish left which I will do once the new shop is somewhat setup. Beveled the underside on the top Made some adjustable fee Attached the pieces that will accept my domi-buttons to attach top (clock is lying on its side in this picture ) Top attached The upper left and right panels are drop in panels. They were fitting a little tighter than they should so i took a smidge off on the inside upper part of the panel that will never be seen I got some proper magnets and got that sorted out. I have the glass for the doors. Couple hours of work left and it will all be finished. Won't be doing anymore work for atleast a month. This is the status of my shop as of this morning Maybe ill do a thread of the shop tear down and re do at the new place since this thread will be on hold.
