Popular Post Coop
About 3 months ago @RichardA posted a pic of his fingers that came in contact with his table saw blade. It's been on again, off again problems for him ever since. Today his doc stuck him back in the hospital. It seems that there's much major crap going on around his knuckle and they are going back in and do a major clean out and start him on high doses of antibiotics. If prayers are your choice, I'm sure they will be appreciated. If not, then crossed fingers or even a shot of tequila his way would not go unnoticed. Thanks! 12

Pondhockey
OK, "Ouch". The infection seems like it's just piling on - not Richard's doing. Sorry to hear of it. Best wishes to Richard; and I will pay even more attention to how I use, and endanger, my fingers.

Popular Post Coop
I think they have Rick in surgery and/or running tests today as he doesn't answer his phone and I know he doesn't have access to this site (no laptop or ipad). But you can bet when he gets home, he'll fill us all in on the gory details and show his appreciation for the well wishes and prayers.
Popular Post RichardA
I HAVE RETURNED........Well guys, I appreciate all the nice comments, and the toasts, I'll join in those in just a moment or two. Here's the way this is working out. There was a space just a little larger than a pencil eraser that wouldn't heal right on top of the knuckle. Everywhere else healed normally. The first surgery was done on June 19th, and it took my doctor this long to figure out what the problem was. I had an appointment to see her Thursday, and she saw that there was no progress, she took a culture and admitted me to the hosp, with surgery scheduled for Friday. She opened the finger up and learned that a woodworker uses all ten digits to do stuff, and that two tendons that she had repaired had snapped and would be difficult to fix. The same for one ligament. So now if I point you in a direction with my left index finger, be sure to follow it around the corner. It will be forever bent. When she opened it up she did a through roto router on the knuckle with high doses of antibiotic. Then closed up with stitches what was closed up before. She left the pencil sized opening so any bacteria had a way to escape. I spent Friday and half of Today with two or three bags of high strength antibiotics and three bags of a saline solution being pumped into my entire body. I can now heal with just one touch. Any how, I'll be on heavy antibiotic's for a couple of weeks. And if the eraser closes up we're good to go. If however the hole doesn't close up, in all likely hood, I'll be going in for one more surgery, to remove the corner directions from my finger, and making it about 1" long. So, I'm keeping one set of fingers crossed. It hurts to cross the other ones. Again, thank's guys for all your kind comments, and offers of get well soon. Hang in there with me and keep your fingers crossed, except when your working around fast moving metal. .......Rick

wdwerker
Glad they were able to save the finger. Shame that alcohol and antibiotics don't mix . I'm sure you can find alternative forms of entertainment.

A single finger won't keep me out of the shop, heck, I still have bathroom cabinets to get finished. I just won't use the finger to sharpen a moving saw blade again.
Popular Post wdwerker
My grandfather cut a finger off and they put a pin down the middle when they sewed it back on. A few days later he sharpened the pin with a file and was using it as a scribe. He drove my grandmother crazy tapping it on the table. He would have liked our corner of the Internet. I think Richard is cut from the same cloth.
