Added 3” to each end. And @JohnG, the t track is in route from Rockler. Thanks to both of you. Come on Coop show how you did it. My kids got me the table for Christmas and I like what you did with it. Also Geedub should probably be getting a commision from Home Depot.
Popular Post Coop
I planed the walnut down to the thickness of the tabletop and using these screws, I used a Fortsner bit to recess the head about 3/4” into the edge of the board. I bought a 12” x 3/16” bit at HD and drilled thru the board and using some clamps and cauls to keep it lined up flush with the tabletop, I drilled the same 3/16” hole into the edge of the top. Prior to drilling into the tabletop, I marked each of the two boards and the top to make sure they went back in the right spot. Then back to the drill press I drilled a 1/4” hole in the board to allow clearance for the width of the screw. I did not make these holes oversized as I didn’t want any vertical movement when using clamps in the future so hopefully wood movement from the top is not a concern? As I didn’t want the holes to show and I didn’t have a walnut dowel that size, I decided to make the round holes square. As none of the square holes were exactly the same size, I cut the plugs for each hole and beveled the edges a tad. Then it was back to the table with the clamps and cauls and attaching the end boards and gluing the plugs in place.

Coop
I knew there was something I was forgetting the last time I went to Rockler, a sand paper cutter. Not a necessary item but one that would come in handy.

wtnhighlander
Beats me, I never used it either. My experience is that most foam products deteriorate in a disagreeable manner over time. I would be more inclined to use an insert of MDF with tool-shaped cutouts.

Popular Post Robby W
Because my wife and I were traveling on Christmas Day, our family decided to move Christmas to this Saturday, the 15th. But I found a stocking stuffer for myself at Home Depot. Every Christmas, they put a set of Bessey clamps on sale. This year, it was a set of four: two 12" and two 6" F-style clamps for $20. I really like the 6" clamps for laminating strips and the 12" clamps get used everywhere, so I picked up a couple of packs. I now officially have too many of the 6" clamps - they won't fit in the area assigned to them on my newish clamp rack and I had to move the new clamps to another spot. I think I have 16 of the 6" now.
