Looking back, there have been some amazing woodworkers that have left us for some reason or another and others that have filled the gap. I’ve learned a bunch with all ten fingers still in tact. I occasionally look in to the forum but don't get much time these days. Happy belated anniversary. It looks like I joined in 2010 in December so will celebrate my 14th year at that point. 6 Quote

Coop Posted March 8, 2024 Report Posted March 8, 2024 Just tossing this around. What with the March primaries behind us and the State of the Union on tonight, maybe we could have maybe a short 8 hour reprieve from not talking politics? 2 Quote

legenddc Posted April 1, 2024 Report Posted April 1, 2024 Why is it replacement parts are never all in stock at the same location? I think I need to replace my washing machine belts. Some places have the belts but not the hoses, others the hoses but not the belt. 3 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted April 1, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted April 1, 2024 Went downstairs before to switch the laundry and I noticed the water hadn’t drained. Took off the front and got it drained from the bleach line which was leaking. Found a hose at Home Depot to replace that. No leaks so far. I also tightened the drain pump pulley. Will hunt down new drain hoses, belts and replace the water supply lines while I’m at it. They’re all at least 12 years old and have survived 3-5 loads of laundry a week. 4 Quote
Popular Post Chestnut Posted April 12, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted April 12, 2024 Has any one seen a snake plant bloom? Other name is mother in laws tongue. This is only the 3rd bloom I've seen on this plant in 15 years. My aloe plant is also blooming buy that plant blooms yearly for me. 6 Quote

Popular Post Coop Posted May 13, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted May 13, 2024 Just curious. A 1/4” bolt has an od dimension of 1/4”, thus the name. I have yet found the relationship of a #6 or a #8 wood screw to its size. What determines the number given to a wood screw? 3 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted May 13, 2024 Report Posted May 13, 2024 @Coop, this article explains the dimensions pretty well, but not necessarily the origin of the numbers. 2 Quote

I think I found it - #0 is 0.060" shaft diameter, and each step up is 0.013" larger. Intuitive, right? 1 Quote
Mark J Posted May 13, 2024 Report Posted May 13, 2024 I wonder if screw numbers are related to drill bit size numbers? Quote

I hoped so, but I was disappointed. I think drill numbers, like wire gauges, get smaller as the drill gets larger, and screw gauges are the opposite. Quote

Coop Posted May 13, 2024 Report Posted May 13, 2024 I suspected some kind of correlation between the number of the screw and the diameter of the head, as that measurement is the easiest to determine on a wood screw but I guess not? Quote
