Popular Post wtnhighlander
Regional requirements and allowances vary by quite a bit, I am sure. My grandfather only made through grade 8, but carried a squirrel rifle to school every day for his last 3 years. Stood it in the corner by the coat tree, along with a couple others that his classmates carried. Don't see much of that anymore, either! Dad had a teacher in High School, who dipped snuff, and used a spit cup tucked into the bosom of her dress. That is, when she didn't have her feet propped on the desk, and reclined so she could just spit out the open window.

For a second there I thought you were describing my 7th grade science teacher until you got to the she part .

Popular Post Mark J
I had a fun day at highschool shop today. As I was preparing to dash out to another appointment I was returning some SawStop accessories to a tall steel cabinet where they are presently stored chock-a-block with innumerable parts and pieces of unfathomable purpose, and which are covered by a half inch layer of accumulated saw dust. Something toppled and a can of spray adhesive leapt from a shelf. Somehow the adhesive struck something which punctured the can, and which then proceeded to spew most of it's contents onto the floor. What wasn't expelled on the floor of course was sprayed all over my shoes. I managed to clean up the floor with lacquer thinner (only solvent I could find), but the shoes are goners. Oh well. 3
Popular Post drzaius
I can identify. Many years ago when I was a wee apprentice, I was working in a shop with a guy we'll call Randy (cause that's his real name). Somehow, a can of fluorescent orange spray paint got punctured and spewed paint all over the floor. Randy, who was an 'act before you think' kind of guy decided to just burn it off and proceeded to light it on fire. The flames were more impressive than he had imagined and were licking at the open wood framed ceiling. Just about then, through the window, we see the boss drive up. A quick flurry of fire fighting activity had the flames extinguished just as the boss walks in the door. At this point there's a thick black clout of smoke hovering near the ceiling and we are both sure we are about to be fired (no pun intended). Boss just walks in, right under the blackened ceiling and tracking through the wet paint. He stood there in the puddle of paint, said what he came to say and left. Not a clue anything had happened. Definitely one of the more surreal moments of my working life. Only the boss's shoes were harmed in the telling of this story
BillyJack
I’ve been around a few incidents. Around 84 Fellow cabinet maker had a 5 gallon bucket wineral spririts and dumped in on his boots. He worked the rest of the day wit( the boots on. Next day he said his feet Rashed real bad and walked like he was on pins and needles. For a short time I remodeled a 4 story apartment complex into a medical facility. A buddy who rode with me had just bought a brand new pair of boots the day before stepped intonac5 gallon bucket of paint coming down a ladder. He was passed all day..

BillyJack
We do this repeatedly in shops, but we don’t lift this directly over the blade and drop it..

No excuse whatsoever for not using there.

Tom King
Reminds me of when our Son shot a spray can of black paint on our deck with a BB gun. I needed to replace the deck then anyway. I think he was about 10 then, and is 40 now. It's about time to replace that deck again pretty soon.

BillyJack
Needs to be using an outfeed table. I never operate a table saw without an outfeed table unless on refacing cabinets.. I won’t use it unless it has a solid top..

Popular Post Chestnut
Had some fun playing in the snow. 4WD + Snow tires is a TON of fun with 8" of snow. Where is my driveway? That's a good question but I wasn't even close.... . Also 11.5 foot ceilings are really nice when you have to move 11 foot boards into your basement shop. A benefit i never thought of.
legenddc
Just did an online chat with Home Depot and got them to price match a rug. Took the $350 rug down to $130. Not sure how they're able to take 60%+ off a product.

So they only made a 40% profit. 2
BonPacific
Tall ceilings are great for basically everything except the heating bill.
legenddc
I keep seeing tool sets being sold in EVA trays that fit right into tool boxes. Husky and Gearwrench to name a couple. I wonder if we'll ever see a woodworking equivalent. Maybe a measuring/layout tools version.

Heating bill is pretty good all things considered. A portion of the house steps up 4 feet and is connected with this area and promotes circulation. Our worst bill was only $150 for a month where the average temp was 9 F. I know this comment was eliciting a response I just wanted to say that I'm quite happy with our heating bills the house is well designed and well built.

I love tall ceilings. your comment wasn't eliciting a response ... bah fail I love them as well. Everything needs to be done right though obviously. Something as simple as a fan can make tall vaulted ceilings more efficient. Also I'm always surprised at how little insulation is installed in home's attics when they are built. Yeah they probably met code but it's not expensive to go from R42 to R60 with blown in insulation.
Chestnut
Finally found a good use for pine wood. https://meche.mit.edu/news-media/mit-engineers-make-filters-tree-branches-purify-drinking-water Apparently due to the structure of the tree branches from gymnosperms can be used as water filters. Ends the age old question of what pine is sutiable to be used for.... .
