wtnhighlander
I need to replace some trim molding around the glass in a steel exterior door. Original molding is some sort of plastic, and appears glued on with a foamy polyurathane product. An recommendations for adhering the new painted wood trim to the steel, and sealing it to the glass? I'm thinking Lexel for the sesl, but will it suffice as an adhesive, too?
Tom King
A little Powergrab to hold it here and there, and Lexel for the main seal. I don't think Lexel will hold it in place tightly before it sets. Powergrab will, but if it's all done with Powergrab you'll probably have to break something if it ever needs to come apart.

legenddc
Got more sleep last night than the previous two combined. Too many late nights and early morning meetings this week. Fortunately they made sure we had plenty of free time and got to do some fun things. Saw a flamenco show at a Michelin 1 star restaurant and had a walking tour in Toledo Spain. Nice to be back home.

Checking the fit of some ganged, hand cut bridles. The individual pieces will join at 90*, but this works for clearance.

Popular Post JohnG
Winter is coming… Fixed a water leak on my solar heating panel return on the water stove. Insulation was added after pic was taken. Replaced some wires that had been chewed by a squirrel or something. And stacked some more wood from my firewood piles. 3 rows 8’ wide and 6’ tall. Not my best stacking but it’ll do, and free time is limited. One in progress and room for a couple more. Plus a kindling pile. My generator in the back. We haven’t lost power here for more than a couple hours, but if I get rid of it we’ll have a long outage.
legenddc
Do you heat your house only with wood? I would have guessed you don't with the solar water heater and Tesla. At least with keeping the generator you can charge your Tesla in a pinch.

I would have guessed you don't with the solar water heater and Tesla. At least with keeping the generator you can charge your Tesla in a pinch. Try to! But our upstairs isn’t hooked up to it so that still runs some. We sometimes run the downstairs heat pump for a short while in the spring and fall. The hot water produces much warmer air at the vents than a heat pump. The solar water heating panels cycle the same 700-750gal that is heated by the wood boiler. There’s a domestic hot water coil immersed in the water tank, so it heats the house and heats our hot water as well. We have an electric water heater but it doesn’t run much, between the sun and the wood. And yes, the generator can be a backup for charging the car if needed Solar panels are going on the roof soon, just signed the paperwork today.
Popular Post gee-dub
I am finally getting around to the sharpening station so I don't have to use whatever flat surface is available. I rigged the bench grinder on a shelf behind the small bandsaw. This is a tool that gets used rarely but when I want it, I want it . I also took advantage of some coupons to buy a Harbor Freight tool cabinet. The drawers happened to be the sizes I needed, it comes with a work top and is the size of the adjustable table shown in the pic. I repurposed an old laundry room upper cabinet as opposed to making one. So I wimped out on making the upper and the lower for the sharpening station. Don't be too hard on me. I have a lot of other much more fun stuff to build so I'm taking a powder on this one.

Popular Post Chestnut
I was going to change the spark plugs on Megan's Forester. I realized that i borrowed out my spark plug socket since i did the plugs on my WRX. I ran all around town trying to find a 14mm spark plug socket after visiting 5 places I finally found one. The 90 min i had to work on things was wasted and now I'm a day behind... YAY! People wonder why I shop online. I live in a decent sized city and the local stores don't carry items that can easily be found online. Only reason I didn't buy online is because I wanted to work on it now instead of in 3 days. The wrench in my plans was i thought I already had the right socket.
legenddc
Been there before. I try to do in-store pickup at some stores when I doubt they have what the claim they do online. The auto-parts stores by us seem to have no inventory or half of what you need (pads but not the rotors). I once had to buy a 10-12 piece socket set because the store didn't have the one size I needed. How's everything going with the little one? Popular Post Ronn W
I am in VA. My brother-in-law and I spent the day moving furniture and household items for my mother who is moving in an assisted living facilty from here apartment. It really is quite nice. My sister spent the afternoon with Mom getting checked in (paperwork). Mom had seen the tiny studio type room without furniture and has been very reluctant about the whole thing. This is not an easy thing to do. When Mom finally came up to the room with my sister we had the furniture and lamps and TV in place in an arrangement that she was familiar with She smiled and brightened up considerably. I will stay for a couple more days to hang some family pictures and help with any changes she might want to make her feel at home. All in all it's going reasonably well so far.
Coop
Ronn, that is a rough road! Hopefully she adjusts soon and is happy with the accommodations and new friends. My kids will probably just move me into my shop and hope that the wood outlasts me!
Tom King
Ronn, I hope she fits in. My Mom was in Assisted Living for a little over a year, when she was 104, and actually enjoyed all the social interactions with other residents, and staff. I also had an Aunt, who never had children, that was in Assisted Living that I looked after for 6 years. My Mother came back to live with us for the past two years because neither she nor we could afford an extra 10K a month of expenses after she had a stroke, and was paralyzed on one side. Also, she is clear headed most of the time, and nursing homes are depressing for a clear mind. My Wife visited every Assisted Living place in a 50 mile radius from us, and found that good one for my Mother. She did the same for the Rehab place my Mom is in right now after a fall out of bed. I wish you all the best of luck. People who haven't been there have no idea what is involved. Everyone says it's a "blessing" to have such aged Parents, and I agree it is, but it is also a major commitment.

Yep a Forester and a WRX. I changed the spark plugs and took the forester for a spin .... dash lit up like a Christmas tree.... took the car to the autozone to read the code. Misfire on cylinder #2. Looks like i got a bad plug, or most likely the parts guy that dropped it on the floor actually damaged it.
