She slipped on the ice and broke her wrist in 4 places had surgery yesterday to install a plate. The surgeon said it went well but said it was crushed worse the the CT scans showed so he was glad he got in there to fix her up. Tough night for her pain wise but hope with each day things get a little better Well that certainly isn't cool. I hope things start getting better for her. wtnhighlander
Anyone else make use of an electric hand plane? I tried one for the first time today, and think I've found my new preferred methid for flattening the end-grain cookie pieces that I use for carving bowls and containers. Really surprised me, how well it worked on the end grain.
treeslayer
Used a Festool one where I used to work, worked great and even had a stand where you could mount it upside down and use it like a mini jointer with an included fence
Popular Post Tom King
"Pruned" the couple of thousand Azaleas in front of the rental house so you can see the beach area and firepit from the house. First I went through with the brushcutter and cut all the small trees growing up in them down to the ground. Then I backed down the hill with the 7' bushog behind the tractor. I did a test swath last Winter, not knowing whether it would kill them, or not. Not a single one died, and all came back bushier than before and also bloomed, which surprised me. They're cut about 2' high. I leveled the cutter in the raised position and backed over them. We decided the view was more important than the Azaleas. Before, you could only see the cove about halfway to the dock. They look pretty awful right now, but hopefully they'll do like the test swath did. I don't want to have to add that hill to what needs to be cut with the mower. It took about 5 hours total. It would have been a couple of weeks with hedge trimmers.

JohnG
Did you try to avoid them with the rear tractor tires or are there just too many to even try?
Tom King
Too many to avoid, and I couldn't see them anyway backing down with the pretty good sized bushog ahead of my path. The ones I ran over during the test swath, which was about 50 feet long all came back. They're pretty flexible. They were cut down before the tractor tires got to them. This morning, I took the battery powered hedge trimmer, and knocked down any stragglers I could find. I didn't see any difference between the ones run over and those not. I went over the whole hill. None were smashed down to the ground. That point looks small in pictures, and even from the house. The point alone covers two acres though, and is about 600 feet long. I need to get back to work on that little bathroom house, and build a topsoil screen to get the whole thing covered with grass, hopefully before next Summer.
Popular Post gee-dub
I finally purged the rat's nest of wires that snow-drifted up against my printer stand in the home office. This has been an ever-morphing blob of crud for the last few years . . . yes, years. I use this area for upgrading PC's, testing cards and drivers and audio stuff. It is so nice to have that wad of stuff gone. I can't believe I waited so long to take care of it. 4
legenddc
Managed to fly home last night after being on a work trip. Somehow my flight was only delayed 1 hour. The rebooking line at the airport must have been 500 people long.

Popular Post legenddc
Thanks for the heads up that’s on YouTube now. Will definitely be watching some soon. Still a little sore from taking the kids ice skating on Friday night. Being bent over helping them was super comfy. Yesterday I finished gluing up the base for our coffee table with my son and made my first loaf of bread. Still lots of work to do on the coffee table, but here’s a bread pic.

I lay my tomatoes out on cardboard single layer and get ripe fruit for at least a month after first freeze. Drew, thanks for the advice. I got these from Kroger produce guy and put the green tomatoes in them and covered them in newspaper and stored them under a spare bed. We’re still enjoying fresh tomatoes !
Popular Post wtnhighlander
Started milling up a bunch of reclaimed 2x4 stock into 1x2 stock to serve as framework for a new shop cabinet today. I like to use a cheap circle saw blade in the TS for such things, which paid off today. I found 2 10d nails that a surface scan with a powerful magnet failed to detect.
