wdwerker
Weight is also important. Blades were cleaned in place . Originally there were stickers with the weight on each blade. The variance was slight.Hunter blades back then were high grade ply/veneer which was very stiff & flat. Sagging MDF core blades will affect the balance .
Jfitz
I haven't chimed in on this thread in a long time. I dug into some long postponed yard duties today - we had a small tree and a large shrub (both rose of sharon) die over the winter (sad!), and I have been meaning to cut them down and chip them. I finally spent the 10 minutes or so sharpening the chain on my chainsaw (dull from a neighbor's use of it - looks like he was cutting rocks), and I finally replaced the gas tank (rotted/leak) on the chipper and fired it up. Alas, it too was dull from a neighbor's use the last time it was used (same neighbor - see a trend? haha) so I got out the parts and replaced the blade with a sharp one. Oddly, all the prep work of finding stuff and sharpening probably took as much time as it did to cut them down and run it all through the chipper! The larger one (the small tree ) was probably 4"-5" in the trunk so I saved some select pieces to see if I can either turn something (small bowl or maybe some pens) or get some pieces I can use to make a small box or something. Popular Post Tom King
This morning, I hot rodded the sprayer that stays, in hot weather, on the 7' rotary cutter (bushog) behind my category 2 tractor. This cutter has two tailwheels, instead of the more common single wheel, which allows it to cut as good as a finish mower, and most lawnmowers, when the blades are sharp, but is still heavy duty enough to cut anything I can push down with it. The light red hatch on the back is a door I fabricated, so I could get to the blades to sharpen them. A 40 gallon tank stays on it. Up beside the tractor seat is a spray wand. I can hit a switch, and spot spray something if I want to. Welded on the back of the cutter is a "boomless ATV sprayer" that will cover a 28 foot wide swath. The pump that came with that sprayer is 3.8 gpm at 45 psi. It works fine for the boom, but for the wand it put out too much liquid, and wouldn't shoot as far as I'd like it to. To remedy the wand poor performance, I bought another pump that puts out 2.1 gpm at 60 psi. The new pump is exactly what I wanted for the wand, but not right for the boom. I can shoot something at least 30 feet away now, from the tractor seat. I ordered a 12" square of 3/16" aluminum off ebay, and mounted both pumps behind the tank. The original pump was mounted on the side of the tank, which put it in harms way sometimes when I was cutting brush. Both pumps only work on demand, so with two switches on the dash, I can turn either on whenever I want to use one, and when either (or both) switch is off, nothing will come out. I also did away with all the cheap plastic fittings, that I had to replace some of each year, and replaced with brass fittings, as well as all new hoses.
Popular Post Coop
Well done Tom! I amazed myself today. After putting in a grueling 7 hours today at work, I came home to find that my WiFi extenders had arrived. We recently switched from ATT&T to Comcast. After 45 min. and the serious consideration of throwing my iPad across the room, I was able to program and connect to it. Didn’t even have to call the grandkids into play. This sucker screams now!
treeslayer
Well done Tom and Coop, I always call the kids Coop to hook that stuff up, if I didn’t I would be using a Tin cup and a string to talk to people.
Tom King
I'd rather be drilling holes in aluminum, and steel, than tying to get new electronics communicating. Glad you got it working, Coop. Not much worse than getting to the point you have to quit, haven't figured it out yet, and it has to wait until another day. Coop
Tough enough to break them down to sand size from within, without the help of a hospital. You know I joke as that has to be one painful ordeal . Glad that one is behind you bud!
Chestnut
Have a batch of cutting boards in the clamps. I'm going to try this ribbon inlay on one of them. Cutting boards are for a silent auction thingy for a friend of mine's dad who recently was diagnosed with ALS at 50.
treeslayer
We’ve had so many questions in this one lately that maybe you would like to post the process you’re using @Chestnut I know I would like to see how you do yours.

treeslayer
They are fun to make and non-believers ( not woodworkers) are amazed with them, I save any scraps that are suitable for them and then make a bunch, great gifts and do great at auctions. Thanks in advance for the ride.
Coop
Drew, what I would like to see is your pattern/template placed against the design after your first glue up. Will you be using a bushing guide on your router?

Coop
Guys that use an iPad on here, question? Last night I bragged that I had updated my iPad to the new iOS 12.0 without the help of my grandchildren. Today, I find that my .?123 button and my emoji button have switched places. Now when I go to reach for a colon (‘), I get a screen full of emoli’s. Can these buttons be switched back?

I've known i needed to have them done the last 3 wees time just sort of snuck up on me. It's soft and hard maple, cherry and birch. On the right side there are some thin strips that are hard to see but once the cherry ages nicely it'll look completely different. Sort of sad i won't ever get to see it after a nice year of color change.
wdwerker
If you remove the front glass from a halogen floodlight ( which has strong UV filters in the glass) it can be used to give the board a little suntanning time. Just don't look towards the fixture while it is on. Even a couple hours make a visible difference. I bet you could let it tan while the oil was drying.
