Tom King
That's Really nice! We have several Armoires from my Grandfather's house built in 1870. They didn't have closets then, so used Armoires. I spent 10 hours in the ER with my Mom on Friday. EMS carried her, but they sent her back home with me in the car after Midnight. She had to go back yesterday because her leg was getting heat in it. They did a bunch of xrays Friday, but didn't find anything broken. They had sent her home Friday night with a badly broken leg with just Pam and me to get her back in the house and take care of her. The leg started getting heat in it, so she went back yesterday. They're keeping her now after another 10 hours in the ER yesterday. ER's are just worn down to a frazzle after the pandemic. I am too after this weekend.

Popular Post tperson
Found the receipt from the sawmill…bought lumber on 1/14/23 to build a king bed frame and started shortly after we got home (at lunch first)…did final assembly last Friday night! After we moved 3 years ago, we bought the bed and since our youngest was a newborn and the old (crappy, metal) bedframe wouldn’t fit the king, we just flopped it on the ground like Neanderthals. Well…the little guy is almost 3 now and it sure felt good to sleep in a real bed with a real headboard and footboard. Based on the speed at which my projects usually progress, two months is almost warp-speed.

legenddc
Yesterday I moved my lathe cart from one tool storage room to the closet behind my shop. Also took down my drill/nail gun holder from the tool storage room. Moving everything all around the basement between reorganizing the shop and installing new ductwork for our dryer. A yard sale might be in order here soon on top of a few drop offs to friends and charities. On 3/13/2023 at 7:44 PM, B1rdhunter said: I bought the dresser (head hanging in shame). Popular Post Tom King
Thanks to those concerned about my Mom. She just came out of surgery to put a pin in the completely separated Femur. The 16 year old knee replacement had limited motion for the leg flexing. She forgot she couldn't stand up, tried to stand to get out of her chair, went down to her knees, and sat back. The sitting back broke the Femur. They didn't catch it in the ER x-ray Thursday night (I had said earlier that it was Friday, but I lost track of days), and sent her home for me to get her out of the car with the broken leg after Midnight. She had a rough couple of days until we convinced EMS to come get her again on Sunday afternoon. No rooms in the hospital except in the ICU, so that's where she's been. This was Really lucky because the staff in the ICU is Top Notch. The surgeon is an old friend of the family who put her replacement knee in when she was 92, and a hip when she was 98. A bit of a row this morning because they wanted to give her a stress test before she could be operated on, but we persuaded them against that without coming to blows. All is looking good so far. I'm in some state kind of like jet lag. The youngest staff member in the ICU is a trainee who has been an RN for 16 years. No one back here has ever had a patient close to her age before. They have a regular room waiting for her when she comes out of post-op.

Popular Post Tom King
Thanks. With this mileage, you take what comes and don't complain. Surgery went well, and she's sleeping good for the first time in some days.
Popular Post drzaius
I feel your pain @Tom King I just got my wife home yesterday after 2 weeks in hospital to rebuild her hip just 6 weeks after having a new hip installed. She had dislocated it while going down the stairs (not uncommon with a new hip apparently) and it made a real mess of the surrounding muscles. They couldn't do surgery right away because special instruments had to be ordered. So now I have to care for her at home, but it's so much nicer than having her in the hospital.

Popular Post JohnG
Today I recognized that I have a problem. My woodworking acquisition hobby has outpaced my woodworking hobby Last night I was sanding down my kids’ kitchen stool (a la Marc). I never applied finish to it, so it requires periodic sanding in order to clean it (5 years of use with it being used by 2 kids for most of that time, it gets nasty pretty quickly). I was using my 3mm stroke ETS EC 150 and thought, “man, I really should have bought that Rotex 150 when I saw it on FestoolRecon.” Today I had a nagging feeling that I HAD bought it. Sure enough, I found the order confirmation email and delivery notice email. Now I just need to remember where I put it! I’ve had this happen with jigs and accessories before, but this is the first time I’ve done it with a power tool. 3
Popular Post Tom King
Drzaius, So sorry to hear about your Wife's injury!! If I ever need a joint replacement, I'm going to do a lot of research first. I went to check on my Mom this morning in the hospital. They have her pretty well knocked out, so she never knew I was there. Her leg is laying mostly straight with a pillow under the knee-much better than the 90 degrees it's been bent at since the break. The thing that amazed me is that there is only a good sized BandAid on her knee. The surgeon told me they'd only need to make a small incision. He operated on a 92, 94, and 106 year old yesterday. He said he was going to scare his Interns to death. Looks like they're going to send her back to the same rehab place she was in last Fall, so Pam and I will have a break of several weeks anyway. We'll just have to drive back and forth the one hour one way trip to Rocky Mount most every day. We do enjoy having some time to ourselves though away from the house. We'll be able to go to restaurants and do some shopping together. When my Mom is here, one of us has to stay here all the time, and the other be no more than a couple of minutes away. JohnG, I've done similar when I can't find something and thought maybe it had been borrowed and not returned. When I go to find the place to put the newly bought replacement away, there's the one I already had.

The Kreg holes are around 12*, and pieces always want to move with the steeper angle. I've also had a face frame split because of how close to the face of the wood the Kreg screw sits. The 6* pretty much sits right in the middle of the joining piece.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
So, this is what 2 bills gets from the local backyard sawyer in my area these days. This is what I brought home. R to L, 1 poulonia, 2 sassafrass, 1 maple, rest is walnut. All kinda meh, and it was so dark in the shed, I couldn't tell how much sapwood was in the walnut. But plenty for my next project, so I'm not complaining. Last trip to a commercial mill cost me five times as much, for about 30% more wood, and that was white oak. Lots more oak around here, than walnut.
Popular Post gee-dub
Unloaded 10 boxes of Xmas and other Holiday decorations, tableware, linens and who-knows-what-all from the overhead storage in the garage. Popular Post legenddc
Redid our dryer vent ducting yesterday. Why they had flex pipe to run straight I don’t know. I need to cut the flex pipe from the dryer to the hard line but all new hard ducts and taped up. Had to cut the vent down and make some flashing for it.
Popular Post Tom King
That will work a lot better and be safer. When I designed the new houses I built, one of the requirements was that a dryer was on an outside wall with no ductwork other than through the wall. I feel like those flex ducts are dangerous because they always catch the really fine lint, which is a fire hazard.
Von
Too cold here today for serious work in the shop (45F+ is my limit these days), so I went over to my parents to help them put together a chair they had already put together, and now I'm making Jamaican patties (inspired by Junior Bake Off - my wife and I are a bit addicted to the Bake Off shows) while skimming all the cool stuff in the "Jigs and Fixtures" forum and also starting a "wish plan" for what it would take to convert our garage into a conditioned space so I would work in it comfortably on days like this.
