Tom King
One slight correction on Chestnuts post, specifically this part: " to use a PVA drywall primer after the first coat or 2nd coat of mud. I think it was Tom that told me that" Actually not PVA primer but regular primer. I don't like the way PVA primer sands. I seal it with some other paint primer, like either Zinser or SW Wall and Wood. That SW is at the top of the list, but it's Way more expensive than 1-2-3. I only buy it if I'm going by the SW store anyway and in the middle of a job and not going by a box store. https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/premium-wall-wood-primer You were correct that it prevents the mud underneath from swelling again by putting more on top of it. I shine a light right across the wall to find any imperfections. I also don't thin mud out of the bucket and don't stir it with a power drill. I use a mud masher to shake it up so it doesn't get bubbles in it. The more water it has in it, the more it shrinks. https://walltools.com/marshalltown-square-head-mud-masher/?gclid=CjwKCAiAyp-sBhBSEiwAWWzTnnpaPkh-ptd2heXz6ea3hU2hkiDQ5CqNeQ2mcU48OZTiOZ4U_MNUGxoCW6UQAvD_BwE
Popular Post Von
Trivial little thing, but in case someone else finds it useful. Kudos to Fine Woodworking who had a tip for a glue bottle opener similar to the one I made in my photo. Theirs had the opening for the cap on one end. I thought it would work better in the middle. 3
Popular Post legenddc
Was at the Air and Space again. Didn’t get to spend as much time as I would have liked but that’s what happens when you go with kids. Thought you all might appreciate some pics from the restoration center.
Popular Post Chestnut
Mounted my track to the garage door. The fast cap mounts have been sitting on the counter for a month it was way past due. This is just my garage rough break down track.

Popular Post wtnhighlander
My sister is office manager for a local timber company. They don't process lumber, just harvest logs and saw cants for other mills or as rail ties. Since the owner learned of my hobby, he will occasionally save me a stick or two of something interesting. Today, Sis brought this cool box elder board. I'll find something to do with it after my current project is complete.

Popular Post RichardA
The only problem with Elder with that coloring is that in 5 or 6 years all that beautiful red, will be brown. I have a piece in my what use to be my shop that was like fire. A ton of flames, it's now brown fire. Oh well!
Popular Post wtnhighlander
@RichardA, I've pretty much accepted all that wood eventually wants to be brown. Just have to enjoy it while it lasts!
Popular Post Chestnut
Uv exposure will speed the color change up. I have a boxelder key holder that is still vibrant red but it gets zero sun exposure. I like boxelder lumber its a pretty nice soft maple species. I has little to no gain and works pretty nice. It's not super stable but that's more because of the way the tree grows. It hardly grows strait so it tends to just form a lot of reaction wood. The one laser strait tree i downed and milled was nice and stable and was a joy to work.

Coop
And I’m bitchin about our forth coming mid 20’s next week! Anyone want a bunch of green tomatoes?
B1rdhunter
Sure would like a nice ripe tomato for a bologna sandwich. We had about a foot of snow here also but don't have to worry about snowplows. Hopefully we'll see a maintainer before the next snow on Friday.

I’m sure my health stats crater every time my tomatoes come into season as my favorite meal is a bologna sandwich with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and sandwich spread on white bread!

Awe man if shipping wasn't an arm and a leg i'd tell you to box them up in some sawdust and planer shavings and send them my way. They'd be nice and ripe by the time they got here.
RichardA
The weather folks are sayin that here in middle Tennessee we're gonna see snow Sunday night and all day Monday, which here means a couple inches, then Monday and Tuesday temps will be in the single digits at night and between 10 and 20 for those two or three days . Not bad for a Southern state. We've had worse. Not like Iowa though.
