Popular Post pkinneb
Well everything is glued up and tonight I was able to sneak out to the shop for an hour to work on the project. First up I cut the door and shelf glass to size. Then I installed the grid on the front with a touch of glue and some pin nails, added the glass and just pinned in the back glass supports Then I installed the hinges for the final time running a steel screw with a little wax in first then the brass screws went in All that's left is to turn/find a door knob to replace the blue tape

Yes very easy especially straight cuts on flat glass like this. Just score it and snap it in half
Mick S
Paul, out of curiosity, did Mike mention why he chose not to drawbore the M&T joints? He does it often and just wondered why not on this piece.

Given his eye and understanding of design another guess is he didn't want to draw attention away from the case (kumiko) 2 hours ago, Chet said: That came out super Paul. Its just a good thing we have folks like Derek and Joe around here to keep us humble I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge and craftsmanship at all levels that gets shared on this site. Popular Post pkinneb
Final pics A lot going on in this pic...deceivingly so ...and its final home This is the "you know i'm going to hit this when I run to the front door look" Last journal for a while as I have started the process of finishing our basement which will most likely take me through the end of the year. Should be a fun project as its primarily going to be an entertaining space with a game room, bar, and home theater. hanks again for following along!
Chet
That's really something else Paul. That is some nice work. The stand looks great against the floor. My Lab would taker that out in a minute going to the front door. He uses a "no holds barred" attitude when answering the doorbell. 19 minutes ago, pkinneb said: I have started the process of finishing our basement I see know reason you can't post pictures of this process, we like all forms of building.

Popular Post pkinneb
Quick update: For about the last month the door on the case on stand would not stay closed, it kept popping open which was driving me nuts becuase I walk by it about a dozen times a day. Its a simple barrel catch so I was scratching my head on what was causing it. Today I stopped and looked at the situation and immediately determined the issue. Wood moves!! The sides had moved with the drier winter air and the glass shelves, which don't move, were now to wide and keeping the door from staying closed. Solution I ground the glass back about a 1/16" and bingo problem solved. Just another reminder to think about how wood movement, even in an small piece, can affect things.
