    • There are a lot of places that you can order exotic woods from. Exotic and figured woods are very popular for turning and are pretty widely available in a variety of sizes. You don’t have to be near a big port to find them. Prepared blanks will be more expensive per board foot but you get what you’re after. You can get it cheaper per bdft by buying full boards but you’ll end up with a lot of non-figured or off-color sap/heart wood that you’ll end up scrapping.    https://www.bellforestproducts.com/ Is another source.
    • h3nry, Amazing work. You did it fast considering mostly hand tools. Is this what you do for a living? How did you learn these great skills. Is it a family thing? Art should be signed.  I'm glad you shared this journey with us. I'll be watching for your next work!
    • I don't kniw the volume you expect to do, but the place Shannon Rogers works for imports all sorts of lumber. https://www.mcilvain.com/?lid=G_srch_brand&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwl4yyBhAgEiwADSEjeDLf9myIiS7IYg5aZBve2E1UjdPDKk1j2oLJ6vIZ0niN3GHW8aJ6wxoC8hkQAvD_BwE But beforeyou give up on domestic lumber, there are multiple smaller sources of figured stock online, like this one. https://b4specialtywood.com/collections/all
    • I've got a project going where I need to be able to source unusually figured wood, and I've been told to look into some of the more exotic species as they offer a much larger range of figuring and color compared to our domestic species. Only question is...what are some of the major exotic wood import businesses on the East coast of the US?  Or what cities I should look to find them?  I'm thinking coastal port cities but honestly I'd go anywhere in the Eastern US if that's where the wood is. Thanks!
    • Selecting the sawblade will always go down to the type of material that you are cutting. If you are not cutting anything fancy like Titanium or other exotic steels, there would not be a need for getting a Carbide Tipped blade! A general purpose blade might work which is way cheaper.  Anyway, I've been getting mine off of sawblade.com. Real good ones. Ordered a 1/2" x 10-14" for 1/4" mild steel March or last year, still working up until now!
