Popular Post drzaius
I remember as a little kid playing with my mother's sewing machine, which was forbidden, and having the needle go through my fingernail to the bone. It hurt sooo bad, but the worst part was that I couldn't go to mom for comfort & sympathy. 2
wdwerker
My previous 9 year old boxer was still silly and playful right up till the end. One of the shortcomings of boxers is a relatively short life. Our family has had boxers for most of my life. 8 to 14 years is the range we have had. Great with kids too.
Chestnut
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-43293824 Reading about George Washington's tree i can't help but think, chop that thing up and turn it into lumber and make something period specific from it.
wdwerker
When I visited Mount Vernon I remember bowls and furniture were made from a tree that died or had to be taken out. Proposals had to be submitted and the craftsman/artist had to have a portfolio of works from juried shows. After all that nothing that got built was impressive. I have a lot of respect for people that make a living off of creative type work but unfortunately a lot of times it reinforces the creative types to play it safe. Your either a mad lunatic while your alive and brilliant when you die or just mediocre. I'm generalizing this doesn't always happen. I want to say Ansel Adams compared doing creative work for profit to prostitution in his autobiography.
Tom King
As much as I respect, and have studied George Washington, he didn't plant that tree. He was a great student of agriculture, but he was a gentleman, and gentlemen were called such because they didn't do manual work, and had soft hands. One of his many slaves planted that tree, no doubt. He had many trees, of many types planted at Mount Vernon. I think his biggest asset was that he didn't need to sleep. He would escort guests to their rooms usually late, almost always having guests in the house, and entertaining until past 11, then get up at 4 a.m., light the fire in the kitchen, and read until everyone else started stirring. Tom King
That's still not enough sleep for me. If I get less than 5 hours a night, like George did, I'm not any good for anything.

I normally send my pants to a clothing alteration place to get hemmed up. It’s one of the most worthwhile ways to spend $10. I bought a new pair of pants and needed them for tomorrow so I decided to do it myself. I was almost done and then I heard a bang and then there’s some blood. Happened so quickly. I’m pretty sure the needle hit my nail and deflected to something softer. A new market for Sawstop here. In a former life, I worked in a garment factory. With 300 women in a room, running 3-phase, 5 hp sewing machines, this was an every-day kinda thing.

I took him to obedience trials, but would not claim to be a great trainer. As a pup, Thor was chased by the geese (you can tell how that finally ended; thankfully no goose was cooked.) One day my mother left Thor in her prized Thunderbird convertible (top up, windows closed) and went into a shop. Not long after, Thor showed up in the shop wagging his stub (Boxers get docked as pups.) There was broken glass all over the driver seat and the curb. (Not a scratch on Thor.)
wdwerker
These days some rabid animal rights type would have called the cops or broken the window no matter what the weather.

I never thought of that! Maybe some activist was ahead of the times.
wdwerker
My dad had a boxer when he was in high school. He got left in the basement one day and ate through a hollow core door to get to his people. Nowadays they call that separation anxiety. Popular Post Tom King
We went out to dinner once with a good friend's family that included his Sister and her Husband. The Sister's Husband was a Psychiatrist (not really part of the story, but the craziest people I know are Psychiatrists). They left their old Lab in my friend's garage while we were gone, for fear that he might chew up some furniture in the house. The garage had a fiberglass garage door. When we got back to his house, the Lab was sitting on the front porch. He had scratched the hell out of the front door, wanting to get in, and had chewed a hole through the fiberglass garage door to get out of the garage. I already know what people are like after I meet their Children, dogs, and horses. 1

I was at a toss up between Starrett and Timberwolf but talked to a couple guys about it and decided to give Starrett blades a shot. I got a couple 1/2" x 4tpi for resawing and straight cuts and a couple 3/16" x 10tpi for curves. Where did you get the Starrett blades from?
