Chestnut
Materials x4 is what i do for most people. Materials x2 is what i do for close friends and family. People that have a habbit of helping me out get better deals.
wdwerker
Design is so crucial. Unusual details can eat up so much time. A simple design makes the build so much better. Get at least 2x the materials plus the cost of the desired tool at a minimum. You know that sandpaper, glue, dowels/dominos and all those other shop consumables add up so fast. lewisc
Any of y’all wearing a QALO ring? I’ve been wearing one for the last year and a half. About a month ago it developed a small tear. It split almost all the way today. I’m impressed with the comfort compared to a metal one. Much nicer to wear when picking things up, grabbing hold of things and working with tools. Ordered another today.

I wore one for about a week but my wife was like what the heck is that...my wedding ring she's like yeah no. That was 3 years ago and I haven't worn a ring since and she hasn't said a word
treeslayer
I’ve been wearing an Enso silicone ring for about a year, they are guaranteed forever, many different styles to choose from. I have my original metal band but I haven’t worn it for 40 years and now will not fit. I was with an ambulance crew for 30 years and had to use our special ring cutter twice to cut metal rings off when people had their hands smashed. No metal rings for me.
Immortan D
Had to cut mine off about 15 years ago. Haven't worn a ring ever since.

Popular Post Mark J
I noticed that REI is selling a similar ring. For now I slip my wedding ring off and put it on my keychain when I'm in the shop. Been thinkin' 'bout getting one of the non-metal ones, but nothin' says "now back off ladies I've been taken" like a gold band. Of course if this was an actual problem for me then this might be a valid argument.
Cliff
I wore Qalo for a while but water gets trapped under the ring and starts to stink. Drives me nuts. I basically only wear my rings in public. They come off as soon as I go to the bathroom when getting home, just leave it on the sink and grab it the next morning before work.
wtnhighlander
Working in the electrical field, I haven't worn my ring with any regularity, ever. Current employer allows no jewelry in the plant, not even silicone rings.
Coop
I had thought about asking this before and if I have, I forgot and apologize. I need to replace this With this. But don’t want the new galvanized look. Anyone have any ideas? Can galvanize be painted?
treeslayer
I’m sure galvanized can be painted Coop, just use a primer made for metal
wdwerker
Wave a torch or heat gun over it from a distance to darken it or wipe it down with vinegar before painting.
Coop
Vinegar! That’s what I had read before but couldn’t find it. Really, to just take the oily shine off of it would be ok. Thanks guys. The next challenge is going to be pouring the water from the old to the new.
wdwerker
Just divert the flow from the pump. If you use a section of foam pipe insulation you could zip tie it to the pump.
Coop
I plan on putting the little fish guys in a bucket of original water and retaining several gallons of water for the transfer. The water Lillie’s will survive. After all is leveled, I’ll add some new city water with decloranation drops and merge them together.
wdwerker
I used to keep several fish tanks and a pond. If you can level , fill & treat the new water 12/24 hours in advance of the transfer it will be much easier on the fish & plants.
Coop
I bought this tank in an antique town in the hill country about 20 years ago because it looked old. I strapped it to the top of my Suburban and looked like the Beverly Hillbillies driving back to Houston. Thanks have a rubber liner in it but the sides are starting to cave in so thought it was time for a new one.
lewisc
There’s been a few threads on epoxy tables in the last week. Came across this one today. Not so much woodworking for me but a piece of art.
RichardA
Now that's different. Not my style or taste but interesting in an offbeat kinda way.
lewisc
I found it on my phone and now I'm looking at it on the computer, I wonder if it's real. It'd be a heavy bit of plywood and plastic.
Mark J
It might be a representation of a real body of water. The dimensions of the wood layers look like they were taken from the depth lines on a nautical chart. I think the whole thing is very clever. lewisc
On second, second thoughts, it now looks like a piece of coloured glass.
