Popular Post RichardA
20 years ago, my wife and I bought a leather sofa and love seat, both recliners, and we loved them, but we rarely used the recliner aspect of them. Then 13 years ago we got two wolves that found both extremely comfortable, and they liked the recliner part, a lot. With the male weighing in at over 150 pounds and the female at 100 pounds, and being active in their youth, their nails began to reign holy terror on the leather. When they chased each other, they would run and bounce off the arms and backs and tear the leather and dislocate the joints in the backs. Then we added a 110 pound Lab house mouse, and he added damage to them. We're down to one female wolf and the house mouse, and they have settled down. But the sofa and love seat had to go, it was so bad we were starting to use redneck chrome to hold it together. In my old shop that was hardly bigger than a postage stamp, I started on a couple of replacements. Then life got in the way, and they and a couple other things got put aside while we dealt with that. I've had a couple of back surgeries, and my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Who by the way is in remission. So I got started on finishing what I started. I took them one at a time and these are the results of those efforts. The material was a gift from a dear friend in Texas, most of you know him as Coop. And they are finally complete. I know that our resident Curmudgeon will have a word or two to say about the "Red oak" but he's okay, don't let him hurt your feelings. These are two love seats a bit larger than normally sold in stores. They are designed with ideas stolen from Stickley, Arts and Crafts, and those darned Amish. Comments are welcome. There is not one piece of metal in these two. The four corners are drawbored in all directions, and the entire build is held together with glue and pegs There is 8" for the seat cushions, and 4" for the back cushions. Pick them apart, but remember, we like'em . And so do the female wolf and the house mouse.
Coop
Very well done Rick. They look way too easy to fall asleep in! I like the way the back and arm rest attach to the back legs. What kind of finish did you use?

Popular Post BonPacific
These remind me of an old Davenport my grandparents had. Though I better built I expect . Nice deep cushions. You're a braver man than I, with white cushions and a pair of canines. Woe to anyone who spills their coffee or tea.

My favorite finish... two coats of natural Danish oil, a couple of weeks apart, then a few weeks of drying in climate controlled shop, then three coats of poly, gently sanded between each. Then finished with a couple coats of Johnsons wax in the areas that will see the most wear.

Thanks, Dave good eye, yeah the tables are mine. The little three legged, I did about 5 years ago to provide space to walk to our computer area, the others are more recent. I've got two vanities coming up in a month or two along with a 7' x 3' bathroom cabinet. So, I'll keep producing as long as you keep those prayers headed for Linda, my friend. 3 hours ago, BonPacific said: These remind me of an old Davenport my grandparents had. The love seats are covered when the critters are in the room, not to worry about coffee and tea.. we will only allow pizza to be eaten there. 1 hour ago, TIODS said: Very nice job Richard! They need "constant" attention.

lewisc
Not your average lap dog. They seem like they'd be exciting pets to have. Did they become fully domesticated or retain some wildness?

Did they become fully domesticated or retain some wildness? We got them just one generation from the wild. they were 5 weeks old when we got them, born 3 weeks apart, and we domesticated them. We had to be the Alpha's or they would have been... Can't let that happen. And the large white male [ my avatar] at 150 pounds thought that he was an average lap wolf, and constantly cut off circulation to our legs. 45 minutes ago, Da Hammer said: Really nice work Rick, so enjoyable to look at nicely done woodwork. Immortan D
You've done a beautiful job, Rick. My parents used to have very similar furniture in a house by the sea when I was a kid. Brought me a lot of good memories seeing your work.
