It got good marks in the FWW review (June 2019) while I'm not a fan of the fine adjustment I can use the batteries/charger I have which makes it a much cheap solution. It got high marks for power and visibility two of my complaints on the Bosch. I will report back on how I like it. Thanks all! On a high note I was able to solve an electrical gremlin in the shop last night that has had me perplexed since last fall So I picked up the Makita This week. The bare tool was $129 and I had 10% of so $119. I did buy a bigger base on eBay and that was $20 so all in $139. First impressions were its got plenty of power, Its heavier then the Bosch Colts I usually use but well balanced, the LED are great as is viability. Bottom line in my opinion its a better unit at a lower cost than the Bosch cordless was. I also think if you're looking to go from corded to cordless you want 18V or you may be disappointed in the power. From a use perspective I couldn't tell a difference in power or quality of cut. Did I mention I really liked the LED lights
treeslayer
Good information to know, looks like a nicely designed tool, and i'm guessing that larger base will come in handy as it looks to be a little top heavy, but maybe i'm wrong, nice score and good to have in the tool arsenal.
Tom King
I hand raked about a half acre today. There's about that much left to do. I had a hard time not doing a good job of it, and ended up getting about 3 tractor buckets full of rocks about 1 to 1-1/2", that none of the tractor implements would catch. I was too tired to even think about taking a picture. Everyone says it looks amazing though. I hope I can find a straw blower to rent. A Harley Rake was looking right tempting, soon after I started, but with a couple of days work, the job will get done.

I remember years ago when the kids were little and they got a chance to go to the in-laws, after they left, we would lock the doors and close the curtains. Now that they’re grown with their own kids, I too go to the shop and look for stuff to do.
JohnG
After hearing them recommended by many people, I finally ordered some Duluth firehose work pants. Tried them on today and they are awesome!
Popular Post Mick S
Got the joinery cut using the new PantoRouter for the coffee table base. The legs will be ebonized and splayed out at 2 degrees and the stretchers will all be profiled with cloud lift arches. There will be a cabinet underneath the top with drawers. And surprise!, it's mesquite.
Chestnut
I found the worst sound my shop can make. Routing grooves with a 1/4" router bit at the router table. Megan said she needed hearing protection on the other side of the house through 2 floors and 2 walls. 1

I couldn't justify owning that one, I had something far more simple in mind. Combine that with CNC there's nothing you can't make. I bet you'll never cut a pin when you needed a tail! legenddc
Spent Saturday putting up crown molding in our first floor. Only got 1/3 of it done and we're not in a large house. Got fed up with the coping saw so I picked up a grinder. Made life so much easier. Couldn't believe all the people at Home Depot just out for a stroll, no masks, not avoiding people and letting their dog run all around. Don't try to put up crown with a 5 and 2 year old.
Mark J
I need a bit of poplar for a sacrificial piece so I went to Menards yesterday only to find the parking lot fuller than at Christmas. I turned around and went home. I'll give it try again today.
legenddc
If anyone needs a good laugh, check out the special pricing on hardwoods today at Home Depot. https://www.homedepot.com/SpecialBuy/SpecialBuyOfTheDay I calculated one of the Walnut packs at $15/board foot. No doubt it is expensive but if you are a person just trying to do a one of project around the house and don't have a shop full of milling machines, its probably a good deal. Popular Post Tom King
It rained Saturday, and last night, so it was too wet to rake. I decided to go rent a stump grinder, and see how far I could get with it. I'd never used one before, or even watched anyone else run one. It was 6 tonight before I finally stopped because I was starting to get a blister. The big Pine stumps took the most time, since the center of the heart is really hard right at ground level. The small ones, of any kind, took almost no time. I had dug up all the ones down the middle, where anyone would drive, but ran out of good fill to put in any more dug out holes. We had planned to just plant low growing things around the stumps on the sides, but I thought it would be worth a shot to see what I could do with a grinder. This machine has a 31hp motor, and I think someone could probably make a living with it. I'm sure the pros use bigger ones though. I lost count of how many I did, but there are only 7 left to do in the morning. $205 for one day, including tax. I should get it back in the morning by the one day deadline. The point looks a lot better with no stumps.

Mick S
Today was a salute to hybrid woodworking for me. I cut the 2 degree splay on all four faces of the legs of my coffee table base on the big bandsaw. Then I cleaned them up with my LN #4 and a LN Boggs flat bottomed spokeshave, both freshly honed to 16,000 grit. Mesquite. Between hickory and ebony in density. Like buttah!

Speaking of mesquite, I trimmed mine today of some small dead limbs. I also see where a woodpecker has been having a hay day on it. I’ve had this tree for about 20 years and would hate to loose it. Does a woodpecker do more damage than good?
