What did you do today?

Speaking of mesquite, I trimmed mine today of some small dead limbs. I also see where a woodpecker has been having a hay day on it. I’ve had this tree for about 20 years and would hate to loose it. Does a woodpecker do more damage than good?

I honestly don't know, but as susceptible to boring insects as mesquite is, I might welcome them.

BTW, Coop, a guy who lives near me bought out another TX ex-pat of his mesquite stash when he moved away a while back. He's been my mequite source at $7.50 bf for a while now. Just bought some really nice 8/4 stock up to 15" widths.

The shop smells great!

I think it’s a toss up. After visiting a customers ranch near Carrizo Springs TX for many years, I brought back a couple of cords of mesquite for grilling. After several years, I still found live white grub worms in the wood when I split it. This one is the last of two that I bought and planted. The first succumbed to the same white grub looking worms.

Coop, I need to go up on my lumber.

Again?

@Tom King, way back when I worked landscaping, we contracted a fellow to grind stumps of trees we cut. We did a job at the Govenor's house, taking down some very large old silver maples. That stump grinder had a 30"+ wheel, a diesel engine, and was towed behind a truck. Took out a 5' diameter (above the dirt) stump in about 15 minutes, including chasing out the larger roots. Guy only charges $1 per inch, largest dimension across the stump. Of course, that was 35 years ago.

That beast was one SCARY machine to be around. The only machine we used that scared me more was the wood chipper that could turn 6" diameter logs into OSB fodder. Rule #1 for that bad boy was to be sure no part of you was touching the log when the chipper grabbed it, as it would easily suck you in.

Well done Tpt ! but you both have a way to go to catch up, 48 coming up this fall, if she don't leave me first;)

I had a good friend of mine and his wife divorce after 38 years, she didn't want to be married anymore. I thought damn it took you 38 years to determine that...

Well, I'm not saying she hasn't threatened at least vaguely once or twice--it has been a long 7 weeks.  But today is our 35th.

Congrats! We are coming up on 7. My wife likes to tell me “I won’t divorce you... today.”

Ok i'm starting to think if we want to lower the divorce rate in the US we just need more wood workers :D

I agree 100%, woodworkers are some of the most laid back people I know, maybe it’s all the planning and detail and patience that makes them that way.

Or we spend more time in the shop and less under their footsteps and plans. My wife can be gone to Hobby Lobby for hours and I’d never know it. By the same token, her and friends can go to the casino in LA  for the night and I feel abandoned after 30 min. Makes no sense.

Makes perfect sense to me :D
