wtnhighlander
Coop, my local Lowes store started putting Christmas decor out at least two weeks ago.
legenddc
I think a lot of people will be decorating this year just for a change in pace for their house. My kids got more candy then ever trick or treating last night. People had candy out on tables by the sidewalk in baggies.

Hear hear! The amount of trash i get in the mail i absurd. I should just put a trashcan at the box with a note telling the mail man to put all election material there first. Popular Post Coop
As I mentioned somewhere on here, We are adding onto our house and a portion gets Hardieplank lap siding. They are 8.25” wide with a 7” exposure. I was watching the framers today put it up and a helper was running a short piece of 2x along the edge of each board and I couldn’t figure out why. When he laid the 2x down, I picked it up and there was a nail driven into the edge of it. He had been scribing the line for the overlap with the nail head. I’ve built a 24’x32’ garage and two out buildings using the same siding and have lots of time and carpenters pencils marking this line. Never too late to learn.
wtnhighlander
@Coop, my house has WRC lap siding. When we built it in 1992, my carpenter grandad was still around to help. He made 2 notched boards, sort of like push sticks for the TS, so when the notch was hooked under the previous siding plank, the ends of the "push sticks" held the next plank at the correct height. Always more than one way...
Chestnut
I'm surprised they didn't use these. I used them when i hung siding on my shed made it a 1 person job. https://www.lowes.com/pd/General-Tools-Instruments-Gecko-Gauge-Fiber-Cement-Siding-Gauges/1000418533 I remember them being cheaper... Like half of what they are selling for now.
Tpt life
We bought plastic speed squares and ripped the nose off at the desired reveal. They don’t hold for one man installation of long pieces, but worked for what we did.

Coop
I think they had those on all security entrances before the government shut down the Chinese Consulate here in Houston a few months ago. They posed no problems against battering rams of the FBI.
Chestnut
@treeslayer The weather looks like your getting a lot of snow down your way. Is it falling downwards or sideways? Some of it is headed up this way and it's already quite white up here. We got 9" last Wednesday.
