Popular Post Robby W
Getting ready for tonight. Salted, ribs separated and tied. Once it is up to room temperature, it will go in the oven at 250 degrees for about 3 hours until it hits 125 degrees, then an hour rest and a final 15 minute blast at 400. I can't wait for the family to arrive. I miss the grandkids. Have a happy and safe holiday!
drzaius
We can't have any social gatherings, either indoors or out, so it's a really weird Christmas for us. We had zoom meetings with kids & grand kids, which was lots of fun, but a poor substitute for the real thing.

I was going to make the drawers right away but a good friend of mine had sewer backup. I put my project on pause to help him as his wife is due to have their first child any day now. Great storage solution! Couple of questions for you; First how do you sharpen the beading tools? With a file? Also what's the red jig for / about? 1 hour ago, Immortan D said:

You may need a ceramic stick or a dowel with sandpaper if you have to touch or clean the profiles, but I haven't used them enough to need that.
Popular Post JohnG
Building a shop is going to have to be delayed, so I got around to making my basement shop a bit closer to usable. Got my clamps and wood off the floor, which makes it feel much more like a shop, and frees up a bunch of floor space.

Megan has some TV shows she really likes and I really hate so she made me go to my shop so she could watch them. She doesn't appreciate my peanut gallery comments during them. I found a really cool bench that was on top of a 50 foot cliff. The bench has an amazing view. We also did some TV and movie watching from the safety of our couch. 2 hours ago, JohnG said: Building a shop is going to have to be delayed, so I got around to making my basement shop a bit closer to usable. Put it to work and plan the future shop to be done right when you have the ability.

I had been holding off doing a lot of setup in the basement thinking we were going to build sooner. The basement has some definite advantages like the bathroom with utility sink and no climate control needed. It’s a decent size and I have easy access to the breaker panel, which reminds me that I need to run some additional circuits. I just have to be more aware of dust (which is a good thing) and sound to some extent (kids).

Trust me, we are far from tiptoeing around, but there’s an upper limit to what’s reasonable. And if I wake the kids, I take the kids, so that means no more shop time. Planer and impact driver into the walls are probably the only things I have that are off-limits during nap time. Also, it’s much different saying that pre-kids and nearly 4 years into sleep deprivation and you just. want. one. moment. of. peace. and. quiet.
Chestnut
Yeah i was just making a joke. I have an idea of what it's like but I do not have kids. The closest I've been was getting 6 hours of sleep each night for a couple years when i remodeled my last house to get it done in a reasonable amount of time.
JohnG
I was joking too. Though 6hrs of sleep is pretty good by my book. I think there is something to having some level of background noise while the kids are sleeping, but it might all be old wives’ tales.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
Hate to tell you this, Drew...I've averaged only 6.5 hrs of sleep per night since about year 1 BC (before Cody). And he is 21 now. Personally, I am rooting for you and Megan to make some little Drews and Megans so your pace of work in the shop doesn't make the rest of us look so bad!

I have too many friends that get super angry when people without kids talk about that stuff. I'd rather play it safe than make someone angry. All of this is so dependent on not only the parents but the individual kids. There is no one size fits all method for any of this. In my opinion all of the variation and differences is what makes life and humanity so amazing. 1 hour ago, wtnhighlander said: Hate to tell you this, Drew...I've averaged only 6.5 hrs of sleep per night since about year 1 BC (before Cody). My mom has worked in sleep for 25+ years and she claims in general it's less about the amount of sleep but more a consistent schedule. Kids tend to disrupt that consistent schedule from what I hear. We plan to have kids. Part of my pace is getting to a point where we are not having to complete large projects with a new born. Though once they are old enough to be a shop assistant I'm hoping my pace increases .

Coop
Lordy! When my daughter was born in 1970, we used cloth diapers. Think Porta-A-Can cleaners, three times over. Then came the advent of a diaper service, still not a preferred occupation. Thank goodness that when in 1975, when our son was born, there were disposable diapers available. The best thing about using clothe diapers is that by the time the kid is done using them you have washed them about 3000 times so they make the best rags for waxing your car or applying finish. 2
