Tom King Posted February 25, 2018 Report Posted February 25, 2018 Today, I had a meeting with a Historic Preservation Foundation. I'm 67, but the average age of the Foundation members is probably 15 years older than me. Long story short, I got home at 4:30, after the meeting starting at 10:30, with a stop for lunch. I'm about three times as tired as I would be after a good day's normal work, and I wasn't even one of the presenters, but did answer questions all day. Quote
Coop Posted February 25, 2018 Report Posted February 25, 2018 I got 36 tomato plants in the ground, cleaned out the purple Martin houses so the new tenants wouldn’t complain, and got 2 coats of wb poly on a small cherry cabinet. Now it’s time to pop a top. 1 Quote

So it appears 'Historic Preservation' is working for all those octogenarians you met with. Pick up any good tips? Quote
Popular Post Tom King Posted February 25, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted February 25, 2018 I'll stick to those provided by my Mother. She'll be 102 in a month, and still has a brain that functions better than all these others put together. 3 Quote
chashint Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 SWMBO and I met some of the family at a restaurant and had a nice meal and visit. We each did our own thing when we got home and I had rearrangementitis so I moved all of my machines and tool boxes around. At least one of them actually ended up in different positions. 1 Quote
Tmize Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 I made another shooting board and back saw rack for use on my bench Quote
Cheeset202 Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 Did my taxes and shoveled a bunch of snow! Quote
Pondhockey Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 Half way through my router sled (I think!) I keep redoing parts. (I appreciate the info from others that have made router bases; glad to know I'm not the only one.) Snowed here too, but having cleared it the last two days, and since it's still snowing, it'll wait for tomorrow! Quote
Coop Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 I too shoveled snow for several hours. Can’t wait until July. 2 Quote
Pondhockey Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 My reward for waiting to shovel was a day and a half of snow, this morning, but I failed to mention my Honda snow thrower. Hope to finish the sled today (and go sledding?) Quote
mat60 Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 ...What happen to the Red Oak Club? I'm guessing someone in management didn't appreciate the humor. 1 Quote

Pondhockey Posted February 27, 2018 Report Posted February 27, 2018 Ah, yes; sled paradise sometimes (like right now). Pretty much like your neck of the woods. As it happens (Karma?) I sprained my knee on the awful snow we had just before the wonderful powder that we've had since. I have a week or so to go (we'll see if the good snow holds up!) In the mean time, I finished most of my router sled, but paused to consider how to cut parallel and vertical slots (without a router table.) I'll be back at it tomorrow, probably with the drill press and some mortising drill press chisel bits. I hope your sledding is wonderful! Quote
Popular Post Midlife Posted February 27, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted February 27, 2018 New Hammer K3 comfort winner arrived today. I would be even more happy if they had delivered the 3 blades I ordered. 4 Quote
chashint Posted February 27, 2018 Report Posted February 27, 2018 I built a 1/8" box joint jig for the table saw today. Quote
Pondhockey Posted February 27, 2018 Report Posted February 27, 2018 Finished a router sled (to be used in flattening part of a slab bottom.) Proof of existence: 2 Quote

Also what kind of router bit do you use?.. Quote
legenddc Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 It looks like those are his flat reference surfaces and he can adjust the height via the wingnuts. I've been awake since 2:30 this morning thinking the wind was going to blow the tree behind my house down. Now that my wife is on the HOA we can finally get them to remove it. I just need to find someone who can slab it up before we go through the process of getting it cut down. Hoping to make an outdoor slab table out of it, I know it's Oak, just not sure what kind. Quote

Thanks..We have some wind going on here but I'm thinking where you are its real bad. Hope the tree stays off your house. Quote

But we still have power. You're going to get hit with wind and snow right? 1 Quote
wdwerker Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 A clear picture of a green leaf laid flat, both sides may help identify the type of oak. Might take me awhile to look it up, college botany was in 1977. Still have the books. Quote
drzaius Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Just cleared another 8" of snow from my driveway & it's still coming down. It's up to my tits in the front yard. We're not supposed to have snow like this around here. Quote
Popular Post wdwerker Posted March 2, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted March 2, 2018 That reminded me of a hilarious story about shoveling snow. I was only able to find a cleaner version of it . http://activerain.com/blogsview/1391032/diary-of-a-snow-shoveler-----funniest-thing-you-will-read-this-season I am so glad I have never had to shovel snow, maybe some ice on the front walk once every few years, but no entire driveway. 2 2 Quote
wdwerker Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 We have brutal heat and humidity every summer , you've got snow. Either end of the scale has issues. 1 Quote
Pondhockey Posted March 3, 2018 Report Posted March 3, 2018 Hey, I'm sorry not to reply to Mat, thanks to Legend for stepping in. Lots of snow here, too. The banks are higher than the snow thrower chute so I have to knock them down, then clear them. I'm working on some supports that let me use the router sled on top my table saw table. I'll show the whole thing later. Thanks for the great link, Werker. We do get cabin fever around here, but usually when the snow is bad (like spring, which is mud season.) It was absolutely beautiful today, and since I have a snow thrower, I just wave (all five fingers) to the plow guy. 1 Quote
