DerekMPBS
Thanks everyone. While she was at her appointment, she sent me a picture from the doctor's office. Of course, it was a detailed image and description of.... Knee replacement and knee osteoarthritis. I have osteoarthritis in my left knee, and a replacement is in my future. I'm trying to wait as long as I can, as knee replacements can wear out after 20 years or so, and I don't want to have to do it again when I'm 70, but we will see how long I can last. I'll be talking with my doctor more about it later this month.

My spine is riddled with osteo, I've had two and prepping for a third back surgery to drill and scrape off the arthritis that grows and pinches nerves where they pass through the spine. It ain't fun. I'm glad Mama is doing good.
Popular Post Minnesota Steve
If you like Air & Space... you need to check out the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright Patterson in Ohio. We went when I was a kid... they have the Apollo 15 module, as well as stuff from Gemini, Mercury and mercury programs.. plus planes planes and more planes. So many planes. And not just US stuff... they've got MIG's and Messerschmitts and Zeroes... and they've got missiles like the Minuteman. When the kids are old enough I want to take them there, as it's the only location you can see a B-2 Spirit. My father was an engineer on the project when I was in high school... When the other kids went to visit their fathers at work day, I had to stay in school. 2

Or any kind of interesting. Id go to the science meseuem but it closes at 4.
Mark J
Woodworking related? Well the Art Institute does have a collection of furniture, but as I recall it is spread throughout the museum. They are open till 8 pm tonight. https://www.artic.edu/collection?q=furniture&is_on_view=1 (Be sure to be filtering for "on view".) If I think of something else in short order I will post again.
Popular Post Mark J
Go up to the John Hancock Building observatory? Hancock and Sears (no, I will not call it the Willis Tower) are the remaining tall buildings in the US, so it's something you can't really do elsewhere. Not sure this qualifies as interesting, though. Actually, better idea, go to the bar at the top of the John Hancock Building and have a beer.
Chestnut
Good ideas i might do the tower tomorrow with Megan. Tonight i went for a drive to see if i could get lost. I succeeded. Now i need gas and haven't seen a station in a long time. There any good shops or exotic lumber yards worth visiting that isn't woodcraft?
Coop
I did the same coming out of Reagan in DC. I drove almost to the hour and ended up right back in front of the airport. 1
Popular Post treeslayer
I helped a friend remove windows, doors, glass and trim from an old door and window factory where i used to work, some parts were remodeled into offices and were sold for a new 37 million rebuild of the whole building. some of these beams were from the St. Louis Exposition of 1904 and are 14 inches square and some are 60' long and a few are longer yet. the floors are 2X6 on edge with 3/4" T&G laid on an angle on top for the 2X6 to finish the floors. spent 3 days removing the stuff that could be salvaged.
Chet
I always wondered why they laid flooring at a 45 like that. The house I grew up in had Oak flooring that was put in like that.
Mark J
Shame to see those Exposition beams left behind. Would they really have noticed if a couple had gone missing .
Coop
Sounds like hard work but I bet it was interesting.

We were done with our part Friday, they were already starting to sand blast the paint off of the forrest of supports, very loud and dirty. 7 hours ago, K Cooper said: Sounds like hard work but I bet it was interesting It was Coop, the word was that some of the beams were so big that they were brought up the Mississippi on a barge from St.Louis

Chip Sawdust
Started sharpening chisels and plane blades for my next project but a different honey-do came along and it’s all still sitting out on my bench. Now the shop is cold and I’ll just wait for tomorrow afternoon or whenever I get back around to it. Got the router table on the TS and a drawer underneath. I reckon I’ll need to put legs on that side; it’s not tipping but it’s heavy on the right. I have a bit of angle iron or oak I can use for it. But I need to sharpen hand tools first. I'm going to get some other parts of the roof to head off any possible issues from the inch of rain we're supposed to get.... it's gonna make a flipping mess. That shrub got a slight trim from the snow blower......
