Popular Post Robby W
Don't be afraid of mounting it on the ceiling, just do it so the reel is vertical. I have one over one section of the shop and use it frequently.

Robby W
Let us know if they are better than regular combo squares. I am curious it they are worth the extra money.
Coop
Sweet!! Mine is not a woodpecker but I really like the squares that have 90* on both sides. Very useful and I rarely ever use the 45* on a square anyway.
Popular Post jussi
Veritas shooting board and lie Nielsen honing guide. Bought both second hand. LN used but looks to be in great condition. Shooting board was nib. I got the shooting plane a couple years ago well before they even made the shooting board but I kind of forgot about it and sat unused till I got around to making a shooting board. Turns out I was just waiting for LV to make one for me lol

In all honestly, I doubt anything Woodpeckers makes is worth the money. But they are nice. I like the indexes in particular and I'm always on the lookout for another square. I have 3 or 4 that just do not lock. One is a brand new 4" Starrett that I never ended up returning so it just sits there.

For those still looking for good squares at good prices, look for a late machinist's estate sale. Those guys don't keep sloppy stuff hanging around. That being said I own several of their measurement products but the two that I would not be without are the 6" stainless steel Paolini Pocket rule $42.99 I have had for years and the 12" Hook Rule $39.99 which is a more recent addition. Both are stainless which I find to be much easier to read then their red tools. While insane prices for a 6 and 12" rules they are worth every penny in my book. The rest of the stuff I have while nice would probably not be purchased again. for squares I still prefer my Starrett's.
Coop
I use to have a 24” ss ruler that actually started the measurement from the end, rather than coming in a tad to start. Darned if I know what happened to it and would pay dearly or close, for another one.

I really like the honing guide I have been using it for a few years now.

FWIW the hook rules do that one side is left to right the other is right to left.
Coop
Thanks Paul. Typing in hook rules, one site that popped up was Infinity Tools and by golly, that’s where I got the one I mentioned. Should have it in a week or so!

Popular Post jussi
Bought a couple of new stones to try out. For those that don't read Japanese (raises own hand). It's the sigma Power select II ceramic stones. Lee Valley carries them but I ended up getting them domestically from a place called Heartwood tools. Never heard of them before but the website looked cool, saved a little and most importantly I would get them sooner. Bonus they sent a personalized card and stickers. Who doesn't love stickers. I have a set of shapton pros but always thought the higher grits developed swarf super quick and I constantly have to clean the surface off. Specifically when polishing the back. Plus they feel kind of slow and I don't have the "feel" of them sharpening as with the lower grits. I don't have much to compare them too however and it may just be my inexperience and impatience. At least now I have something to compare them to. We'll see after I try these out. From what I've read these supposedly have a better "feel" and are faster.

curlyoak
Thanks Tom! Great tool. I think this will be useful. Have you created a quick way to cut the four equal pieces? I have 150 g on the yellow and I will put 100g on the green.
Popular Post JohnG
I may not have time to work on projects in my shop these days, but there’s always time to add tools and supplies! This time it was free! Got a lot of sheets of grid paper for design work. The grid is printed in “nonreproducable” ink so after you draw a design you can photocopy it and the grid won’t show up on the copy (on most printers). Also got a lot of ~1/8” thick chipboard for making templates and/or storysticks.
Robby W
Aaarrgghh! I ordered some PMV-11 plane and cap irons from Lee Valley back in early February. At the time, they said they were back ordered until March. And then April. And then June. And then July 2nd. And now July 30th. Patience, Robby, patience. I called and they said that they are having problems sourcing the powdered metal. Oh, well.
